Cracked my Axle - Aftermarket Options?
I was doing a search and couldn't really find the answer to my question. I was at the drag-strip yesterday for test and tune. The track itself was dry, but as you veer off to the left to head back, there was a dip where there was a good amount of water. My 2nd to last run I had a lot of wheel hop in second gear, probably due to the tires being semi-wet. I finally pulled the brake light fuse located to the left of the clutch, in the fuse box to allow me to do a burnout. I heated up the tires, had a good launch, but as soon as I caught traction I twisted and cracked the inner CV joint on driver's side axle... (FAWK!). I'm sure the axle was weakened from the hop, the run before, even though I let off to try to take it easy. The damage was done at that point.
Are there any aftermarket Axle options? I see some available for the G35 / 350, but nothing for ours cars (less a stage 6 that's $2,200 and can handle 1200whp.. a little overkill). I was also looking into solid differential mounts to keep the rear end from moving under load.
Thanks!

Sorry to hear, don't know about the axles. However SPL makes solid differential bushings for the G. Youll get more road noise out of them, but your rear will be firmly planted. Good luck

Solid mounts can be custom fabricated at any machine shop to be honest. No axle options for us unfortunately other than the stuff the Driveshaft Shop sells. Might want to hit up GTM see what they got.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I went ahead and picked up a used axle to hold me over. It's installed, hopefully the passenger side hasn't been weakened and holds up okay.
Sam, you're right, we are really limited to our options.
I'll be installing a set of the SPL solid mounts. It's crazy seeing how much movement the differential has on a lift.

I have a DIY on these in the DIY section.
I seriously doubt you cracked the inner CV with wheel hop.

I did see your post on the DIY and appreciate it. I'm still up in the air. There's more vibration in the car from the Polyurethane engine mounts with the supercharger kit. I don't think the extra vibration and noise is going to personally cause an issue for me - Especially when I'm running the Motordyne exhaust.

Falken 452 tires on a supercharged G37 at the drag strip. The automotive equivalent of Usain Bolt competing in the 100m wearing flip flops.
Decent tires with a good launch will easily drop that time by a full second. But I too am interested if you find stringer axles that aren't crazy expensive.

Because after all the performance mods you've done to your car you should be ashamed to be riding on that crap. 405 ft/lbs TQ. Very little grip. Some good sticky rubber (at least in the rear) really helps you hook up off the line. And modulating the clutch better on launch keeps you from breaking axles. I learned the hard way. If it makes you feel better, I did the same thing on a stock engine. . The time it takes for the truck to hook up and tow you the rest of that quarter mike seems more like hours than a few minutes while everyone stares at you for being "that guy" who's responsible for shutting down the track while they all wait to take their runs.
