Going through my collection of references, I came across this spread sheet I made last year. It's based on stock wheel size and gearing.

As much as I love and encourage DIY, this is not a job for a shade tree mechanic unless you have mad skills and experience with it. You need to be able to correctly set the lash. If you know how to do that, go for it. If not, take it to a professional.

I have the patience to do it. However I did a small research on this, and the tools that are required for this are costly. Here are all the possible information about the Rear Differential I've found....but tooooooolssss.

^^^ WOW! What a thorough article. That guy spent time educating.

It was easy for me: I paid a pro to set it up.

Reviving this thread from the dead! I'm going to purchase a diff with vlsd and 3.90 gears and was wondering if this gearing is too much for the 7at. Will it be better to go to a 3.69 rear gear set or is the 3.90 good. I'm looking for any input from others who have swapped 3.90 or 4.08 in a 7at. Thanks!

conkus805, the op did this. he started this thread because the switch was on the level of OMG... If you buy the pumpkin in the classifieds, you'll be ahead of the game at a lower cost. If this was available when I bought mine, I would've gone this route...

I got the journey peg leg diff but I upgraded to a Japanese spec skyline 250 gts 3.90 diff with vlsd. Got the diff on with just the flanges swapped and I must say that this mod completely changes the car. There has been debate that a Mt rear section driveshaft is required for this swap to work but I am experiencing NO vibration and my cruise control works without any changes to my ecutek tune. I think the reason my cruise works is because I do not have the icc (intelligent cruise control). It seems peeps with the icc run into issues where their cruise stops working. This has been without a doubt THE BEST mod I have done for performance on my car. There is instant acceleration in every gear, even 7th on the highway. If anyone is wondering the car is at 3k rpm in 7th at 80 mph.

Sorry I'm a moron but what's a peg leg diff?

I really want to do this for the increased acceleration but probably can't until at least early next year. I owned a 335i and hated the $500 problems that came up every month or two (owned it until over 100k).

I just miss the acceleration of the line a little and it sounds like this mod throws us right back into that stratosphere... does that sound right to you?

FYI: G37>BMW any day. I owned the BMW and it's reliability just plain sucks. I did have the 07 though.

Anyone know someone in the Tampa area that I could go to and they will know what the hell I'm talking about when I say to do this. Looks like Lokey infiniti in Sarasota has experience.
