09 G37s slave cylinder Fighting Dealership

I have an 09' G37s that had the slave cylinder go out last year and now again almost the exact same time this year. My car is 3k over warranty (I somehow didn't notice that). However they said they wouldn't have replaced it again even if the car was still under warranty because the part had a 1 year or ---- mileage warranty on it, I fit into the year but not the mileage. So even though it was clearly a faulty part or some kind of defect with the Infiniti design they won't stand behind their product. To add insult to injury, last year I requested they replace the clutch system while they were replacing the slave cylinder, thinking that the fluid from the cylinder could and would affect parts of the remaining clutch (as I have read on previous post in here). They refused to do this and said it was fine.
Now they are saying everything had to be replaced and that the clutch is burned out and that most likely it caused the slave cylinder to go out!
I have been driving sticks for 29 years and my husband has been driving them even longer. I think we know when the darn clutch is going out in an automobile!
Neither time was there any sign of a burned clutch, the glutch petal went directly to the floor and stayed.

My husband has just picked up the car from Clear Lake Infiniti and paid $3,225.00. He asked for the old parts and was told they didn't know where they were and they may have already been disposed of (knowing we were taking them to a 3rd party for inspection). The dealership also refused to photograph the parts before hand. Needless to say we are livid but that's not going to get us our money back is it!

If anyone on here knows of anything at all we can do, I'm certainly open for suggestions. I will be calling and writing Infiniti but I'm not holding my breathe. I'm afraid without some type of written back up regarding the slave cylinder issues we may be sunk.

Any and all help is appreciated,
Audra

This is kind of closing the barn door after the cow is out Audra, but in the future ALWAYS insist before service is performed on your car that any parts removed be returned to you. Always. It will force a shop not to replace something that is working perfectly fine (for fear of you inspecting the "faulty" part and discovering their scam or incompetence) and also will force them to actually replace what they are charging you to replace. It is a bit suspicious that they have disposed of your faulty parts but then again that might be true. At this point the car has been repaired and you have paid them. It's doubtful IMO that you'll get your money back. However, going forward you may be in a better position if you insist on seeing dead parts before payment.

I have dealt with the service department at CLI before. I've never had any issues when dealing with Sean (service adviser). There was another guy who I dealt with before him that was a bit of an *** but I don't think he's there anymore. The Service Manager (forgot his name) was a little surly the one time I dealt with him but not too bad.

I might also suggest having your clutch master cylinder checked out. Did you notice if the fluid in the reservoir was dark (iced tea color) and had a lot of sediment in it before the repair? If so I was told by a tech that this is more indicative of clutch master cylinder problem than concentric slave cylinder. You may replace the slave and clutch and the problem may come back soon if the master is indeed the problem and wasn't replaced. If that happens, then I'd say you have a very good case to get your money refunded if they replaced parts that weren't the problem and have to do another repair to fix it.

Your best bet if you cant get it resolved with the service manager or general manager is to call Infiniti Consumer Affairs and let them know what's happened and what you feel is a fair solution and see what comes of it.

Best of luck.

BTW, I purchased my coupe at CLI and used to go there for any issues. We recently bought a G sedan and it had the clutch failure issue at relatively low mileage. I took it to Sewell and told them this was my second G to have this issue. I wanted to them to both replace the slave AND master cylinders to be safe and if the clutch or flywheel had issues upon inspection, to replace those too. They did it without argument (clutch was still great they said).

get your lawyer to contact infiniti personally and tell them you have sworn statements of everything you posted.

they will shut up and suck your D*** instantly.

I bough a G37S back in 2008 when the car came out. I had a snow incident and they had to replace the part where the wheel is attached to. 2 days later driving the car I drove over a speed bump and the thing instantly snapped and the wheel ended up like almost inside of the car.
Upon the tow truck arrive we looked at the area and literally. THERE WAS ONLY 3 OUT OF 8 BOLTS, that held that piece together and all 3 bolts were snapped in half.
The car went to infiniti and they were refusing to fix it under their fault saying they would never have forgotten the bolts etc,

Long story short, I contacted my lawyer and we got a sworn statement from the Tow guy and the tow company and myself from when the car was towed that those 5 bolts were indeed NEVER there. And also threatening to take legal action.

They apologized and said they would fix everything at no charge and gave me a free loaner for like a week =]

Ray Catena of Edison infiniti is the worse dealer ive ever had to deal with SPECIALLY the service department. SOME REAL *******S working there and the name of the SUPER ******* IS PETER by the way. Sadly i got my second G37xS this time (2012) from that same dealer but thats because im good friends with one of the sales person and he always hooks it up

What an agonizing turn of events, it even annoys me just reading about it.
Hope you get a better resolution soon, good luck.

I know, I know, it was bad on us to assume we could get the old parts. We should've known after they refused to photograph anything that they would "dispose" of them.
We're not finished yet, I am going to follow through with calling and writing Infiniti to see if that helps, if it doesn't I will, unfortunately, have to contact our attorney. It's just a shame everything seems to have to go the litigious route these days.
BB, Sean was our service person on all prior visits but not this one, I think he works warranty cars only perhaps. My husband and he apparently got on fine however Sean didn't appear to care much for speaking with me, lol. My husband voiced a concern regarding this matter and from that point forward he still did our paperwork but we never saw him again. I think I ask too many questions for them, lol.
Anyway, I'll post the break down on my invoice so everyone can see and chime in.

Thanks for the advice!

Invoice highlights;

towing---$175
Parts;
Cyl Assy - concentri---$120
tube - concentric ---$34
cover assy - clutch-----$718
flywheel assy----$1079

labor---$980

looks like roughly $1950 in parts and a few more dollars for misc. stuff that made the bill total $3225

Diagnosis was; vehicle will not go into gear. Found a clutch cylinder leaking and clutch worn out. Replace clutch cylinder slave and clutch.

Comments please, as I am not educated on pricing.

Thanks again

Pricing is normal dealership charge for parts. Labor is a flat hourly rate, probably about $125 at CLI so they charged you about 8 hours or so. Could have been as low as 5 or 6 for transmission replacement but I wouldn't say they beat you up too much. Anything under 8 sounds reasonable to me.

Again, this is hindsight buy you might have considered aftermarket clutch and flywheel. More sturdy built parts at about half the cost you paid for the OEM ones. However the dual mass flywheel is designed to dampen drive train harshness. Also an aftermarket Zspeed heavy duty CSC is a must so that it doesn't die again. It's a lot more expensive at $325, but the OEM one is pretty weak and a poor design IMO.

Audra, sorry on whats happened to you, but I too have had issues with My Dealership no names of course, my chrome Spoiler was Flaking and its roughly 6-7 months new 12.. and yet my finish by my shifter was bubbling up kinda satin aluminum look ring... took it to the Dealership showed them and they said ok ill replace the shifter issue this time but it looks like a Air Freshener problem at your car wash...I'm like WTH...Told the service mgr you can take that comment and put it back in your snuggle smelling office...I wash my car, Mr.CSI...he got upset and left...his assistant said we wont cover the spoiler for the defects of the chrome lifting ...
so I said to the Assistant please get your GM please..
low and behold he came out looked and said what's the problem? I showed him...he asked what happened and said the same...
I ordered a Factory New Spoiler not the lip one that was on there...like the bigger one anyways...
Ill post a pic of me Handing that GM or the Service Mgr A**** and say thx! Here you can have it...
Btw the chrome under the spoiler tini lip was all cracked under it too...
damn plastic!
Sorry to venture off on my issue but I'm out $450 on a new spoiler. But again I'm happy it looks better but still if they would do their job none of this would happen....Right?
They still haven't called me for my shifter piece either yet...
best of luck...they are Tight *****!
