Grinding gears. advice needed!

Hey guys,

So I bought a g37, 09, 6mt about a year ago and throughout the year I have noticed that the gear grinds from 1st to 2nd but only when I'm passed 5000 rpm.

There were only 10000 km on it when I bought it, I don't know if the previous owner abused this car.

Any advice would be appreciated.

U have warrenty bring it in. Does not sound like the car was driven properly. Maybe worn bearings also?! Take off any mods on the vehicle and bring it in for warrenty work. Doesn't sound cheap... If you didn't abuse it somebody did. Goodluck

double clutch and see if that helps, the previous owner might have blown a couple solinoids.

shift togear one gain some speed
clutch in and pull it out of gear 1
clutch out while the cars in neutral
clutch in and into 2nd gear
try looking up some videos on youtube on how to double clutch.

If that fixes your problem then you might have a blown solenoid. You wont know until you get the car up on a hoist. I have a bad reverse gear but its not bad were it grinds. I contacted my dealer and they told me it was a wear and tear item and its not covered under warranty, but after some research it is covered but I was out of my warranty period.

^^What solenoid? There are no solenoids in a manual gear box. There are syncro's though. Is that what you mean. Worn syncros would cause the grinding the OP describes. Purpose of double clutching is to match trans input shaft and output shaft speeds. If the car still has any remaining powertrain warranty, this should be covered.

If it is, it involves removing/replacing the trans. With only 6K miles on the odometer, one would hope the clutch is still in good shape, but if not, this is the perfect time to have that replaced as there is minimal additional labor required.
