Flushing tranny oil on 6mt - which to use

Hi all,

Going in for my 66k km oil change, and I thought I may as well do a tranny and rear diff oil flush; the car has only been with me for about 1k km and I'm not sure how the previous driver treated it; it can't hurt to be over-protective

Just wondering which oil would you guys suggest to use?

good idea if you do not have service records. it's a cheap and easy thing to do so why not? note that you don't need to flush. just drain & refill. amsoil makes great gear oils. just be sure to use the correct spec for each part - they are not the same! IIRC diff is GL5 and gearbox is GL4, but just check the manual to confirm. i've never needed friction modifier in the diff so you'll probably be fine. if you hear chattering after changing then you might need to add a tube of it, but just wait and see.

I went with Motul Gear 300 75W90. A lot of people use Redline as well.

I've used redline in my previous car, so maybe I'll stick with that.

Having said that, can someone confirm what canucklehead stated for the viscosity: GL5 and GL4 for diff and tranny respectively.

I put Royal Purple in the tranny and diff of my old Z and I'll probably use it again in the G when the time comes. I could really tell a difference in how the transmission shifted after using RP, silky smooth.

75-w90 GL5 for the diff - 2 QTs
MT-85 GL4 for tranny - 4 QTs
