For 2008 to 2010 G37 infiniti recommends using ester oil, something about the lubrication qualities of the ester oil preventing the ticking sound you hear in the VQ engines. Most owners just use normal, or synthetic oils and have not noticed the ticking sound occuring in their rides. The few that are very **** or particular about thier cars use ester oil exclusively for thier oil changes. For 2011? and up infiniti no longer recommends ester for oil changes, whether they changed the ecu programming or tired of people complaining of the $110 price tag of the oil changes who knows. There has been an ongoing debate in regards to the benefit vs. expense of using ester oil. Like someone stated earlier have them reprogram your ecu or switch to ester. Your choice. From personal experience i have only used ester and hear no ticking sound, my friend who has used synthetic can hear ticking which is the reason i stuck with ester.
