Clutch problem?? :-(

Hey guys, I have a question and I'm just looking for some input. This Friday I was driving my G (6MT, 49,871 miles) home from work and all of a sudden I noticed the clutch pedal would not come back from the floor after being engaged. I had to put my foot underneath it to pull it back up. As I drove and got closer and closer home, it got worse and I literally had to stand on the clutch to get the car in gear and shift thru the gears. Then all of a sudden at a stop light when I tried to pull off, I could barely get the car in 1st gear to pull off, so I decided to pull off the road into a nearby apartment complex because I felt like the car wasn't gonna make it. Sure enough once I stopped I could not get the car into any gear other than neutral and this is with the clutch pushed to the floor. Ultimately, I had to have the car towed to the nearest Infiniti dealership that evening and the following morning (Saturday) I called the dealership just so I can actually talk to a service rep and explain exactly what was going on. The first thing the guy said is he thinks it may be the clutch gone bad but he could be wrong and to keep my fingers crossed. I asked him how could a clutch just go bad immediately like that with no warning. It's was always solid. It never slipped or gave any indications at all that it was going bad and yes I know how to properly drive a manual, I'm 28 years old and I've been driving a manual since I learned how to drive at the age of 16. My last 3 vehicles were 6MT. Anyway, I won't know until tomorrow when the dealership opens what the verdict is, but I hope it's something that will be covered by the powertrain warranty and not the clutch that I know will not be covered. Has anyone else had the same situation? Could it be the slave cylinder? Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks!

There was a thread a few weeks ago about the same exact issue.

I think the final descision on what was wrong was the clutch cylinder was bad.

Clutch master cylinder or possibly slave cylinder. Either will be covered by warranty.

Ok well I have the car back now and it was the slave cylinder failing. Wasn't covered under drivetrain warranty I was beyond pissed but around $700 later, im back shifting again. Thanks guys for all of your input.

I agree. How is a clutch slave cylinder not part of the powertrain/transmission system. It's definitely not a wear item.

The clutch friction surface or flywheel friction surface are wear items and may not be covered by power train warranty. The concentric slave cylinder is most definitely not a wear item and should be covered by a power train warranty. Unless you just have the $700 to burn, I'd suggest speaking to your dealership service manager about this. If he doesn't agree, then speak to the general manager. If he doesn't agree let him know that you will cal Infiniti Consumer Affairs and ask them about it. That may do the trick. If not, cal them and explain that you were required to pay for a repair to a CSC on a vehicle that is still under warranty and see what they say.
