Help harsh downshift

harsh downshift
Done with breaking in, so I stepped on it. I know people experience harsh downshifting in D mode when coasting. I just experienced 3X worth when in DS mode. Bring the car to 40MPH, then step on the brake(not too hard), then felt the car "jerking", the RPM jumped to 3000. Any help, thanks

Sounds like it was doing what it is supposed to do. When playing on Highway 2 in the Angeles Nat'l Forest going fast into a corner and getting on the binders will will make the trans drop 1 or more gears with the rev matching increasing the rpm. I don't notice the jerk because I am usually back on the throttle as soon as the downshift takes place. I love wearing out tires on California 2!

Its normal. Thats what sport mode is for. Say you're doing some spirited driving around some twisties......you're going 70 mph and you have to all of a sudden brake for an upcoming turn....the car downshifts to a lower gear so when you come out that turn you're already in the higher rpm band where all your power is, so you can mash the gas and get back up to speed without having to have the transmission downshift again. Some refer to it as engine braking. I use DS mode daily, but also when its raining outside. The abrupt downshifting helps slow the vehicle down and i find it useful on wet roads when i may need to abruptly brake.

nothing is wrong with your car. that's why there is sport mode.. get you ready to launch off again after you brake. a very simple concept. if you compare 2nd gear and 3rd gear going 30 mph to 45 mph. which one is faster? of course the 2nd gear! because it already passed 3k rpm. it can generates more torque.

So is it definitely normal to feel the downshifts when coasting in low gears (like 20-40mph)? I was kinda freaking out thinking my new car had a transmission issue because I've never had a car where you could feel the downshifts while just trying to coast. 2012 g37x, ~500 miles on it so far.
