What kind of car was it in? I'd be willing to bet the radiator was significantly larger and/or it was a large displacement engine that ran at relatively low RPM.
The heat issues of the G are the sum of a combination of factors, none of which can single handedly cause the heating issue
ANMVQ: patiently waiting for your car to be done

'99 Mustang Cobra. Naturally aspirated low-po 4.6 liter DOHC V-8. 320 horses. Aftermarket Bilsteins and special springs rates - not lowered. 2 tight Recaros. Idea was no drama and no distractions.
That event was all about immaculate timing (no GPS or rally computer - just paper and stopwatches), the power was strictly secondary. I don't remember all our numbers, but I think we averaged 119.7something across the 59.6 (?) mile course. We were surprised we won our class. We also took 2 others cars along which ran in and won their classes.
Probably the most fun event we've ever done. And watching the cars in the unlimited classes take the course at over 200 was great.
The course was simply a section of closed highway, with some fast bends including a crazy one up a hill, over the top, and off to one side. Best event ever.

Exactly the same thing as Silver State Challenge, just the local variant held in Texas. We're lucky to still have it here. http://www.bborr.com/
It's absolutely a must-do for all driving enthusiasts. Unfortunately, we don't have a car that is really appropriate for it this year and I really want to do it this year. I'm sure the G will easily do 85 (the minumum speed class) for the duration, but the thing about doing 120 was than maintaining that for the just-under 30 minutes was anticlimactic. After the fact it was clear that 120 wasn't very much at all. We all brought extensive open track experience to it, so this kind of speed wasn't at all new to us. That said, it was a very tough event and one of the competitors even got killed in a hellacious rollover.
The ideal car for this event is probably a C5 or C6 Z06 'vette, because of the speed it can maintain and because the rules allow it to compete in classes up to 165 without adding a roll cage because of it's extensive built-in roll structure. I could go back and do 150 in that easily.

JWfisher thanx for the great write up and how much you are enjoying you kit.. Mine is maybe a day a way,, dealer email today and told me after a few days of back and forth logs with stillen the figured out the issue with my tune, I looks like the tunes cold start and hot start parameters where set the same?? So when the car was hot or warm it would try and start as if it was cold and thats why it was dumping so much fuel.. The dealer said they will be reflashing the car with the new tune tomorrow AM so we'll see .. Hope it goes well tomorrow, but go figure its suppposed to snow tomorrow :/. .

I dunno about the Vette; they suffer from cooling issues from the factory as well
I really wonder how I'd do; I run a full datalogger in my car and can run realtime numbers, including average MPH based on GPS.
I'm assuming their safety/experience requirements are similar to Silver State Challenge?
You're lucky to have an event like that local to you

If you've got all that equipment, then the sole challenge is simply the driving part.
What datalogger do you run?
Yes, safety and experience requirements are almost exactly the same as the Silver State. You will be speed limited and be required to pay extra for a beginners class.
