You're right all ATs exhibit some lag {I've driven dozens of cars over my lifetime all with ATs}, but in my case, the 07 was non- hesitant either in D or DS mode {in fact, the 07's DS mode was much more aggressive and responsive}. If you're curios read the hundreds upon hundreds of posts on the Other Network: G37 Reprogramming Thread.....on this forum. This is not a isolated problem, but seems to be quite extensive from 2009, 2010, and 2011 models.
It is funny how Beer don't understand the problem with the G's 7AT.

I've owned lots of cars and lots of makes and all of the forums are full of people complaining about AT and the lag. I think it's just full of people who think it should behave a certain way. It would be something if I wasn't in lots of forums and here the same thing.

The solution is simple. Shift yourself.

Is the lag issue the same for the G37 5AT? I hope not! I went for the early version G37 especially so i could get a 5AT (after reading all the problems people had with 7AT on here). I owned a V35 5AT and loved the transmission. No lag at all. Im now awaiting the arrival of my 2007 G37 5AT with the hope that its the same box/software as the previous G35's.

BTW im in Australia so my car will be a JDM version. Im assuming they use the same tranny as the USDM models?

My 07 5AT was a much better transmission for this car than my current 7AT IME. The 5spd was always in the sweet spot reqarding torque and no hesitation or lagging issues. I SOOO wish Infiniti would have just added a 6th cruising cog to an otherwise perfect transmission. The 7AT seems like the 5ATs overly intellectual nervous cousin

And they are going to loose a lot of repeat customers.

If so, it's going to be because the 5AT is "different" than the 7AT....not necessarily "better". This is my first G37, but I have a '12 with a 7AT and it's as good as any auto trans I've ever owned.

It's amazing how two very similar cars can yet be so different.

Hopefully things have improved w/ this transmission. If you owned a G35 w/ a 5AT and now one w/ the 7AT I think you may have a different opinion, or maybe your transmission has some latest software tweak that is making it behave more logically.

No fix for 2011 acceleration delay

I have a 2011 G37 and there has been a delay in the acceleration from day 1. I have complained about this numerous times and finally had the service manager drive it. He agreed and told me that this is just the way the car works.

When I hit the gas, it hesitates for about 1 second. At 60 mph this is 88 ft or about 6 car lengths. I have never had a car that has had this kind of delay. It is quite annoying.

I have had several other people drive this vehicle and they agree that something's wrong.

Infiniti advertises about the quality of their vehicles and that they will fix anything that's wrong. Well, they won't touch this one. This is my first and last Infiniti. I'm quite disappointed that they won't stand behind their vehicles.

Alan72AZ:

I think you should find another dealer, or maybe bring them the TSB - the 027 update you'll see mentioned in other threads. My dealer had no clue until I told them about the TSB. Then the did the update and I've been very happy with the car ever since!

After I got the 027 update, my 2011 does not have any lag anymore. It had LOTS of lag before the update - I sounded like you and I could not stand it. Now it's great!

The quirky 7AT problem is acknowledged by Infiniti as a class problem thats why they keep coming out with TSB updates in attempts to fix. It is not some sort generalized issue common to all AT's. Heres one for you, I had an '04 G35 MT 6 speed. Loved it, so when came time to replace I drvoe both the 2011 6MT and 7AT. I picked the 7AT because with the gearing (7 speeds) it had more off the line than the 6MT.
