Yeah, it's a solid 12 second car, but it's just hard to launch. If you can get that down, you'd be sitting pretty good. That's why I was talking about mph. The power is there, it's just down to traction. @milkcow, do you know what the 12.0 run mph was? And was he on cheater slicks? I'm on 305's and can't go full throttle until 3rd. Of course, they aren't very good tires (Hankook V12's), but the car just doesn't hook.

115mph and he was on street tires. On the stock kit, I get 12.5-12.6s ~110mph (awd model) on street tires. I should be able to get a bit lower with a better launch. Hoping to hit 11's after A-A conversion + more boost.

Any AWD long-termer?

Hi all,
Been in a G35 coupe for a few years and currently shopping for a G37XS coupe as well as mods. Been researching the Stillen kit for a while and think I know where I want to go with it (given the AT and all I've read, probably wouldn't stray too far from the base kit + cooler) but curious if anyone here has had any long-term experience with an X?

Also, the site is promoting 500+hp on the base kit and I see that most are closer to 400+ stock but I've seen a lot of older posts in the 300+ range - was there an upgrade to the kit at some point or just a more aggressive tune? I ask mainly because I've seen some used kits and if the right situation shows up, could go that route instead of new.

Any info appreciated.

Mine is an X and I'm running on low 400s awhp right now with the stock kit + EcuTek tune. 30k miles and still running strong. I did the frozenboost cooler and transmission work for good measure though. I personally would never buy this kit brand new for what you get with it.

The disconnect is probably between wheel and crank horsepower. Most people publishing their dyno sheets here hit in the low to mid 400s, which would translate with driveline losses to around the 500s at the crank.

Thanks Waste86,
I figured that was the case for recent 400+ #'s but the lower 300s seemed awfully low and I recall reading a post (may have been Stillen) regarding something about an older system.

I'm seriously considering going SC. Should I buy the std kit with the Stillen tune or should I get the tuner kit and get my shop to do a custom tune? If so, UPREV or ECUtek (my tuner does both)? My shop has already suggested I do frozen boost and a 25 row oil cooler along with GTR spark plugs if I boost.

You're in CA - I'd buy the CARB kit, and then get it tuned with ECUtek. Save the CARB sticker for emissions time.

The carb sticker won't mean anything if he gets a custom tune. If you intend on buying it new, then you should just get the BP turbo kit and call it a day honestly.

They can't check what tune you have that at the emissions stations, and yes, the CARB sticker means something.

And BTW, you have no hope of passing inspection with a BP kit in CA. CARB legal (or at least a CARB sticker) is the only way to go unless you want to keep uninstalling and reinstalling every two years.

I was under the impression that certain tune parameters will fail the smog test unless it's very conservative. I was just saying in terms of what you get, you might as well pay for the BP kit and then get an inspection done "elsewhere".

So my shop has said to DEFINITELY get the tuned CARB kit. But said I can do an ECUtek tune if I'd like. I should've clarified with them if they'll be adding different maps. I guess that would give me an "everyday map" and a "smog legal map". Lmao it's like diesel-gate all over again.
