Did i mess up my transmission?

I was driving on free way today in 4th gear and popped into 3rd by accident instead of 5th. My rpm went crazy... Did i mess up my synchro or transmission?

Thanks

third will get you to about 90 mph I think. So if you were doing 100 in 4th, then dropped to 3rd, you're probably ok, but don't do it again. If you were doing 120 (which I don't think you can) then yea you probably messed it up.

Check and inspect the canuder valve. The synchro-mesh coagulator should be looked at too.

Good luck.

If you do end up in an overrev condition, it's not the trans I'd be worried about, but rather the engine.

45 in 3rd still leaves you lots of engine rpm before you're anywhere near redline.

Find an open road and take each gear up to 7K rpm while noting the vehicle speed.

If it was that easy to brake a manual tranny or the Synchro system, half the manual G37 owners would be with broken trannies by now. If you were at those speeds, I don't imagine you could've reved it all the way passed the end of the redline.
