High Flow cats and DYno

So, I finally gave in after almost 18 months of driving my 2010 G37xS 7AT sedan, with my Stillen Gen 3 intake and cat back exhaust, and bought the Invidia High Flow Cats. I wanted to do an Uprev Dyno tune on the car because there was just too much lag in the mid range that I felt could get fixed by a tune, but I couldn't decide on whether or not to do the Cats or not. I've heard enough that I gave in and bought them, so I should have them next week and the tune the week after.

I am hoping for a much better throttle response and mid range power increase. I just wonder how long before I get used to it and need more. I refuse to put a super charger or TT in the car....simply because for that money I'll by a Nissan GTR.

YOu can get a 1 year old GTR for $70k. My car was $43k + $15k for SC + installation and dyno costs...not to mention the repeated costs making it reliable and transmission upgrades for the 7AT. Now you are what... $60-65k and have to baby it... The GTR is NOT much more with no hassles.

@eksigned...I agree...I think Uprev is fantastic. I am so looking forward to it. I will post dyno sheets before and after.

GOt my car Dyno Tuned today. THe result was an incredible ride difference. ALl the throttle problems I had were gone (I have the 7AT) and the acceleration was significantly improved. ONly got a 12HP gain, but I am fine with that. They used a Dyno Dynamics Dyno and it put out around 278HP. THe guy said that it is about 10% less than a mustang dyno and that should be more like 305 or so. I don;t really care what the number is just glad it drives so much better.

Agree. I would gladly put in 10K more to get the GTR. Now if I could only find one that hasn't been redlined.

Yup, everyone speaks of how FI is not worth money yet still spend thousands on bolt on mods.

Lets do some simple math:

Stillen G3 ($500) + CBE ($1000) + HFC ($400) + Uprev tune ($500) = $2400

Horsepower gain: 20-30whp tops

Supercharger ($6500)

HP gain: 120+whp

hmmmm...

FI runs down the engine faster doesnt it? and plus, TT is way more than 6,500 done the right way. hes right, for spending about 10-15k to upgrade to twin turbo plus the 45-50k on the car, why not go GTR?

Not a fan of BMW 335i, but that might be a cheaper alternative if you want to go faster.

Was this after tuned, or just the bolt-ons w/o tune?

So, I find the 335's too small inside. I had an M3 before and just felt it was really narrow. I am 6'4" and 275lbs... former body builder, so I have rather wide shoulders.

As for the performance, the INifiniti is good for me for a daily driver...THese mods are great and give me the throttle response I wanted. THose numbers i posted are for the post tune with all those mods on it. Seems in line with what most people are getting with similar mods (converting to the mustang dyno numbers)

My problem with adding a SC or TT is that people say...oh, just add a SC for 120HP. They are excluding the labor charges to do it and the issues that ALWAYS arise. These people are clearly not reading the forums to see how many people struggle getting a RELIABLE setup that doesn't require a ton of hassles. I know so many people who drove across the country to have expert tuners who specialize in their car and have done this 100's of times...and their engine blows on their way home. That type of things happens all the time and is NOT worth the hassle for me. I've decided to just buy a car that has the performance I want and in the case of a TT G37 and a GTR I'll take the GTR for marginally more money, but a lot less headaches.
