You can damage the shift lever by twisting too hard; here are some instructions on how to remove the shift **** on a 350Z; the same applies to the G37:
All that work drawing and he had the channel lock pliers backwards! lol Remember the effort applied should rotate the handles of the pliers around the center point, not through. Also use equally opposing forces for the two pliers.
Well I tried all this and apparently my **** was welded to the shifter, couldn't get it out without pretty much destroying the leather on it. Oh well...
