Engine died 09 g37x coupe 7400 k miles

Hey new to this board just curious if anyone has heard about this happening to other g37x coupes. I have had it for 20 months now and last monday while driving my engine light started flashing, it started shaking like crazy and I lost acceleration. When I got home I called my dealer for it to be towed back and when I called the next day they said the whole engine needed to be replaced. They asked for proof of oil changes which I had 3 of. I treated it like my baby and never abused it. Again only 20 months old but I have already been without it for 11 days and the guy said it will take a few weeks. Im hoping I can take a car payment off what I owe since I will be without it for over a month possibly. Anyways Thanks for reading.... Tom

Man thats brutal, hate to hear it. Maybe the oil consumption issue? There's a few threads on here if you search around for it ...

Good luck with it

Technically, that shouldn't happen to any G, and especially one that's only 20 months and treaded nicely. Definitely sorry to hear that, though. Probably just an unlucky car, because I've reading G forums since I got mine and never came across anything like that. At least you're getting a new engine, lol. Warranty surely came in handy.

A redline a day keeps the mechanic away.
In all seriousness, hopefully everything works out. I'd be pretty upset if this happened to me. FWIW I have read about G37 engine replacements on this forum somewhere, either due to oil consumption or something else.

Someone just made fun of BMW reliability here in another post, sorry to OP. Happened to me too on G35 sedan, not as bad as engine replacement but my car stayed in dealership for 3 month until technichian from Japan arrived with engine parts to fix it. Funny that our dealers could only change oil and check tires pressure and need someone from Japan to fix engine.

its not the dealerships... its also sometimes approval from corporate itself can take a while.

im sure there are plenty of mechanics here that went to school and lots of extensive training to learn how to work on these vehicles.

Sorry to hear about your car.

I have an '10 x and had the same problem. Was sitting at a stoplight (only about 3k miles on the car), car shuddered and died. Turned on again, went 100ft, died again.

Had it towed to dealer where they were baffled at the problem. Told me metal shavings found in my oil pan. At the time I had done no mods to the car. Total engine replacement, took around 3 weeks. They never did find out what the problem was although they said perhaps a bearing was shot somewhere.

Oh, as an unwelcome epilogue, a week later I had to have the car towed to dealer again when car wouldn't start. This time, dealer had to replace starter motor which they said was fried when my engine went. So make sure the dealer checks out your starter motor too, it was a PITA to have my brand new car towed twice in a month for major repairs, really shook my confidence in the brand.

I'm at 15k now and have had no other issues. Nissan NA told me they would comp me one car payment (although they still haven't done it... hrm need to follow up with them). Good luck to you.

Mine just died...2009 G37x same thing had it towed to local shop cause it was Sunday...they replaced cam sensor and said "its still runs rough" and by rough they meant it would get a mile away and die on me so the nearest dealer is 35 miles so I opt for Nissan after calling and being told Im out of warranty cause of my 78,000 miles...they are into it about $500 and tell me its 6 degrees off and will cost $3000 to fix timing chain guides blah blah I ask about a new engine..he say $9,800 for the engine not including labor...he found a used one with 30k miles and wants $6400 to put that in and it has 90 day guarantee (yipee smh) any thoughts or suggestions...Im in Philly and its drivable to 40 mph before it shakes and stalls back down to 40..he said its only running on one side of engine....Im obviously not mechanically inclined but have taken care of it My email is ihservices@aol.com and cell is 610-636-2252 if anyone in this area has an idea of a local mechanic or supplier of salvage/remanufactured motors

Thanks
Tom
