You guys that keep saying how much HP they have seen the motor handle don't understand the difference. Those statements are just stating the strength of the valve train and components of the motor. With nitrous, they're are other variables other then the number of HP it can handle. As said already, A/F being a big one. Especially with nitrous, when lean it burns VERY hot and can melt holes in pistons. There is a reason piston compositions are built for specific purpose, FI, NITROUS, N/A, etc.

I was on the "pit crew" of a friends 68 vette which had won the previous years "fastest street car" competition our local track had. Vehicles had to be 100% street legal and driven. Well, the next year we/he did a nitrous motor that we literally finished the night before the race and didn't have a chance to tune just right. So, after each pass we would adjust accordingly. Well, after the 4-5th pass, and in semi-finals, we started blowing some pretty good smoke out the exhaust and knew the motor was hurting from going to big on the NO2 nozzles. As an engine builder he didn't care and went out one more time and lost the motor with a heavy shot of juice. After breaking the motor down, we literally melted through the pistons. BTW - He ran low 8's 1/4 mile.

Anyway, I wouldn't do anything too crazy on the stock motor.

UPDATE - Just found a video on youtube of the 'vette. it was a 65 not 68 (been quite a few years) Don't know if this motor was blown or juiced. The car has had both. (This video run was an 8.14)

isnt 1 "shot" equal to ~1 horsepower? so why isnt is sufficient to run say 50-75 shot? a boost of 50-75 would be very noticable and much safer wouldnt it?

^ you are correct, these motors can handle alot.
have had the nx since 1/10.
200 shot will kill the motor, I was gonna do a150 shot when it was explained to me it would be the equivalent of strapping a pipe bomb to the motor.
this was from someone who has 30+ years working with spray.
the only way that would be possible if you had a progressive controller & dual stage set up imo.
very expensive set up for a stand alone & progressive control for the spray.
even then, idk nitrous makes almost all of it's power in torque.

You can safely run 100shot. I would recommend a controller and you'll need 1-2 steps colder plugs. I ran a vq35de with a 100shot for 4yrs without problems. I did bump up to 150 a couple times.
