What is up with the 6MT Sounds?
#16
This is my first MT, and I learned through constant stalls, and rough shifts. I still would have my G no other way but 6MT. When I drove an auto, it was like click to shift *wait 2 seconds* then car shifts.
None of the noises from my 6MT bother me at all, all I can hear is a slight whine while moving slow in 1st.

I have the noise when idling, but nothing when shifting from 1st to 2nd.
When in 1st driving slow in a parking lot and I need to come to a stop, after pressing the clutch in I sometimes get a rough clunk noise.
I'm not too worried about it anymore though.
As someone else said, I'd much rather have the MT with the noises. I had the AT G35 and wasn't half as fun to drive.

Well as long as it's not something serious like the transmission going out I can stand it. I think it's funny that such a sophisticated car has these strange things though. A friend of mine has a 328i stick and made fun of all the vibration that was showing in the stick. He said he has never seen his BMW do anything like that!

LOL at MT envy..
so glad I got the 6MT... somehow driving in to a parking lot with STI and GTR in an automatic just doesnt do it. Plus driving manual is just soo much more than any tiptronic can emulate

It sounds horrible, and I can feel it in the car and hear it very loudly. Every time I'm in a parking lot in 1st and then need to come to a stop and have to push in the clutch to shift to neutral. Worse if the RPMs are falling when I push it in.
Was thinking about taking it in for service, how normal is this? I'm also having problems starting out from a stop. The car feels like it's going to stall almost every time as I let out the clutch, and it is pretty shaky too. This is my first 6MT, had a 5AT G35 coupe for 4 years. Was thinking it was me being a bad driver but I've had the car for 4 months now and still it sounds and feels like crap. My friend's manual transmissions are much easier...

Yeah LOL its true when I got this car new I thought the transmission would be real quite and shift smooth as butter LOL it feels like my old muscle car tranny.
I've had my G for almost 2 years 8 months and I'm a 2008. I have the slight grind like/click sound going from 1st gear to second and didnt like it since it was noticed back at 6,000 miles. I reported it with a replied, its normal.
Whats worse is lately I noticed now when I let me clutch slowly all the way out without giving any gas to let it engage, it shutters the car and shakes the pedal during the engagement. I don't remember it doing this and either clutch is bad or something else is wrong. Time to go back to dealership.
