CEL after a year with GTM RTP

Ive had my GTM RTP's for over a year now and never had a problem with any CEL. But recently, within the past month or so ive repeatedly gotten a cel for the cats. I'll reset and it will turn off for a day or two. Then it pops up again, usually while cruising on the interstate. Is it possible that the resonators are allowing a little more air flow through them and thus triggering the sensors due to much air flow? Can the sensors themselves become dirty and thus think there is a block and too little airflow? I thought about the steel wool but im a little worried about it working its way into the exhaust and causing a problem elsewhere. And seeing as they gtm pipes already have an extended bung, i dont think i have enough wire to put another extender on the sensors. Any idea's why this is happening a year later??

I got my CEL with Berk HFC after more than a year. Dunno why. I used the steel wool and it worked. Even if it fell into your exhaust system, what harm do you imagine it will do?

I guess i should give it a try. Did you put a certain amount or just a small wad before the sensor?

Make a solid wad that is fat enough to have to squeeze very tightly into the extender so that it's lodged in there very well and won't come out. No set amount.

Tighten up your flange bolts, your obviously getting some leakage up at the gasket.... it's not unheard of for these bolts to loosen over time after we break the factory 1000 lb/ft seal (thats a joke) and install RTPs or HFCs.

I checked the flange bolts. Those are solid as hell. Ive heard stories of cat failure and pieces of it getting sucked into the engine. It makes no sense to me seeing as how its an exhaust but ive heard of it happening. Yea, of course it makes sense to me that if the wool were to come loose it would be ejected out the exhaust, but when you start stuffing material into your exhaust....my mind wonders haha.

Also, should i unplug my battery and let it reset? I just installed the wool and the light is still there. Should i drive it around a bit and it will go off or should i do a reset?

I have the same problem with my berks. Did any of you check to see if the O2 sensors were still functioning? Mine are stuck at a fixed voltage.

If the 02 sensor is bad, then it would set a CEL right after startup. Mine was coming on days later after a reset. I did the steel wool last friday, and (knock on wood), so far so good.

if you are tuned that is the reason for the cel.
had same thing every couple of days, maybe every 3 to 400 miles.
removed tuned, has not come on since.
driven over 1k since.
good luck with the steel wool, curious to know if that works.
since I have to bung extender x 2 welded tofether & it still was happening.

I'm pretty sure that it's physically impossible for it to get "sucked up into your engine" since exhaust gasses flow out from the engine, not the other way. And if it did come loose and get blown downstream, I don't personally know if any harm that it could do. It's just a very fine wad of stainless steel wool It's not going to create any sort of blockage. Maybe I'm wrong though. But I have no CEL.

Has anyone checked the error code they've gotten with the CEL/SES?

Bump.. The shop installed my GTM RTPs and now I'm throwing CEL P0420 which is the famous code (along with P0430) for HFC/TP installs.

Anyone have any input? How do I know the sensor is not bad? I have some live data from my sensors but I'm a noob and I don't know if they're reading right.

Any info or help is appreciated!
