Excessive steam from radiator area when driving in wet conditions
Hi all,
I've had my 2009 G37x for about 18 months now and this winter I started to notice excessive steam coming off the radiator area when driving in wet conditions......to the point where it looks like the car is overheating. The temp gauge stays normal. I brought it to the dealer yesterday and everything checks out ok, no leaks, fluid levels fine.....they told me this was common with the G37s.......seems odd 1) that I just started noticing after 18 months, and 2) that that much steam is deamed as "normal".
Anyone else have the same problem? Thanks

thanks....
Seriously though, at stops, people have rolled down their windows to tell me something is wrong with my car it's that bad......I'm talking about an abnormal amount of steam.
But thanks for your input

but to the OP's question, yes, I guess this is deemed "normal". i had the same question in December when S. Cal was hit with record rain. There was so much steam you'd think my car is on fire.

It's totally normal. Many cars do this with similar radiator and channel designs. Plus, our engine runs hotter than a Donkey's a$$ in pepper patch, so don't worry about. Worry about things like your engine eating a quart of oil every two weeks or if your engine starts leak things all over the garage floor, or if the valve train starts to sound like robot orgy, or if the car fills with water one day after a car wash. now THOSE are actual worries.

I got this too after car wash. It seems like the grill doesn't channel the water away. I also noticed that there is nothing behind the chrome grill to channel or block the water. AS long as it doesn't damage the radiator, I guess it isn't a big issue. I live in Los Angeles so I don't expect to have too many issues with it.
