So what I am really trying to figure out is if the G37 with the extra mpg/gas savings, is worth it over the G35 even with this problem.. I assume Infiniti is going to come out with a damn fix to this right??

I've had a 2005, 2008, and now a 2011 G35x/G37x.
I don't see much at all in gas mileage. Maybe 2-3MPG better in the 2011.

They have a current reflash/patch that smooths out the shifts a bit, I had it done and it did help, still not quite there yet though. It seems that the 2012 7ATs have a different software version and the owners aren't having the same issues, so if that's indeed the case they should make the
reflash available (that's what we're all hoping for).

Like I said, you REALLY need to take a 7AT for an extensive test run and see if it's a problem for you, many owners don't have issue w/ the 7AT and you might be one of them

The lag issue kinda bothers me, but Ive learned to work around it (Im lucky enough to have paddle shifters so that helps some, plus it makes the car a little more fun to drive)

There was a recent post that had some more details about it being more of a throttle-response issue than a transmission issue. IMHO that means a better chance to fix it for everyone previous to 2012.....doesnt sound like its a hardware thing which is good.

Now its just a question of if anyone happens to find out if the flash is available....I dont think its going to be something Infiniti releases publicly (i.e. "bring in your car so we can fix it"), but word of mouth will get back to the forums Im sure if someone happens to get a new flash for a '11 or earlier.

Im hoping they will do the right thing...I think they will, but Ive been burnt before with issues being swept under the carpet long enough to say "oh sorry we're in a new generation design now, tough luck".

So I don't have time to read through all 70 pages of this thread, but i need some info. It would be helpful if the OP could provide a summary in the first post.

I have a 2009 G37x coupe that is experiencing the engine breaking and harsh downshifts. From scanning through various pages, it looks like people are running into a problem with "lag" when stomping on the accelerator? Is this after getting this TSB applied, or did you guys have the problem all along? I haven't noticed any problem like this, and I'm not sure i want to get the TSB done if it is going to introduce this issue. I would much rather have some engine breaking in deceleration than not moving when i stomp on the gas. Can someone please enlighten me?

@stickstickly: The latest software has the throttle response problem between 20 and 25 mph, and it does not have the harsh downshifting issues of the original '09 program. Pick your poison. *Most* people think the latest program (technical bulletin 075a) is a better balance/tradeoff. I don't like it, but I also do not like what I have heard about the '09 program, so I am waiting for them to make my '11 work like the '12 does with yet-another-update.

@Chris11LE: The only way we will find out is when/if someone finds out there is newly issued TSB. Infiniti has in the past swept things under the carpet and/or said "good enough" (meaning they weren't getting sued or lemoned and most owners were satisfied enough).

My own opinion... I think a new TSB (new update) will be coming for our pre-2012's.... I just don't know when, and I don't know how long I am willing to wait.

I still find the cruise control behavior on this car to be unacceptable too, and I know they have no intention to fix that. The 2012 cruise control is just as useless as on my 2011.

So I just dropped my G37x off at the dealer for oil and inspection and asked about a "fix" in the works. He stated there was a fix put out in april for these issues for the G25 only at this time. He said they are working on it for the G37. I guess he was going to check today and see if anything was released. So it looks like the update is coming soon.

A quick Google shows this might be true....there was a powertrain TSB released on April 25 for the G25 (ITB12-023). Quick summary of it was: " shift responsiveness issues. Reprogram tcm first, then using new tcm part number select matching ecm reprogram."

Interesting!

That certainly sounds like things may be moving in the right direction. I wonder if they released this for the 25 first since it's a small volume car and they can get some of the TSBs out of the way before they "unleash the beast" for the majority of the G owners. Covering 3 years worth of G37s would be a pretty large number of vehicles, maybe this is their way of easing into the TSB for the rest of us. Sure hope so!
Thanks for the info Jackal & Chris.

Maybe they acted on the G25 first since its transmission had been criticized pretty harshly by a car magazine. G25 owners may have been pestering Infiniti about this.

Thanks for the info jackal2001! This is encouraging news for sure.

Uh... not might. It is true. The dealer had a printed yellow sheet he showed me and we read it line by line showing these exact issues were fixed. The issues being the harsh downshift when coming to a stop and lag in throttle response. There was more but stopped reading after I saw those and said yep, that is what I need on my G37. He stated it just didn't come out yet for the G37. He said he didn't know why it only came out for the G25 and not the G37 yet. Should be soon.

Nice!!

The only reason I changed "is true" to "might be" is that the only reference I can find on the net is NOT in Infinitis list of TSBs....its off of automd.com...I wasnt sure how reliable a source they are.

But now I agree its true, especially if you saw something on paper.

Heres to hoping it gets applied to the '37 soon enough.

Here's what makes me really want to yell at someone over there....

On 4/29 I visited dealer and asked if there was any hint an update for transmission and throttle response issue might be coming for my 2011 G37....

None whatsoever. Nobody in service (manager, techs) had the sense to mention that just 2 weeks ago there was a TSB for the G25??????

Well, don't you think that a TSB for the G25 might HINT that something is coming for the 37?????????

I really have had it with this car company and the people who work for them. I hate to keep repeating but they have permanently lost my future business.

Even with the 2012 update this transmission is still pathetic compared to all others out there.

I was just at the dealership last friday for a drivetrain noise. They told me there is an update to the re-flash I got last year. Well the noise is gone (for now) and the car feels a little more energetic, but the shifts are still jerky and lag is still present. They didn't indicate any new re-program.

If there are any G25 owners with the latest re-program, please post and let us know if it works.

I dropped off my 2010X today to have a few things done; one of them being the transmission and throttle response too.
I'm driving a 2011 loaner that feels completely different than my 2010. The throttle response is smooth and so is the transmission...never realized how bad mine was until I drove this loaner.
I didn't even have to ask and my advisor said he would look for the newest update...I'll see what he comes up with later.
