You raise valid points. Downshifting when you give it a little gas when you want to go a little faster will reduce the gas mileage. Where is that happy medium?

I think the original 09 program was OK just a little rough around the edges, and I believe there was no lag in the original 09 program, just harsh 4-to-3 downshifts among other harshness issues... Then in the 2010 update they made a lag during the 4-to-3 downshift which is what everyone was complaining about for the past 2+ years... So yeah, I totally understand if you don't want to change what you're already happy with. If it aint broke....

I could be wrong or I could be using the wrong terminology, which is probably the case since I'm still new to this sort of thing, but its listed in here that the '09 is part of the ITB10-075a

Thanks g37guy01.
Did a search at http://www.infiniti-techinfo.com/TSB...px?tsbType=TSB and found ITB12-027 for 2009. I input make/ model/year and search for harsh shift. Happy days fellow 09ers! Who's gonna be the first to update and report back?

I recently went to my local dealer to get this done and they ended up frying my ECM. They ended up giving a me a loaner for the day and told me the new ECM would be in and installed tomorrow with all updates up to date. So when I picked it up, I made sure they addressed the rough shifting issues in my 2011 coupe. They told me yes and everything is good to go. So my initial thoughts on this...
Not much of a difference. There is definitely less jerk from stop and go due to gear shifting. But there are still times where accelerations from turns create a rough shift and jerk. I would say before this update it felt like a 5/10, especially in cold mornings. After the update I would give it a 7/10. Overall, I didn't expect it to be flawless shifting or anything, but it has improved. Just not as impressive as other members described.

Not trying to **** off anyone here but I have an 09 that has never been reflashed and I'm still not interested in reflashing my car. I don't want the DS setting numbed down. Although I mainly use D or M and I like to use M in the hwy only. I have been driving my car mostly in D for about the last 6 months now to see how quickly it downshift when I need it to downshift.
I have learned and adapted to use this quirky gearbox a long time ago. I have been driving for 32 years and haven only driven an auto gearbox full time for the last 5. To get my car to downshift quickly from D, I press the gas pedal quickly about 1/4 down and as soon as it downshift, I give it more gas if I need more power. This takes about 1 second in my 09 which is still using the stock 09 software.
I actually like this and prefer this to the 2012 loaners I have driven. The 2012 loaners, 3 of them , downshift instantly the minute you give it a little gas. I really don't need my car to downshift all the time if I'm just trying to speed up a little bit. Anyway for those people that want their 09 flashed, hopefully Infiniti will release a TSB soon.

Yes it behaves a lot like most other cars while doing normal driving or coasting in D... But it's still a G, meaning it still has a spirited personality you could say. Which is exactly what I wanted for D. In DS it downshifts more but not too much,,, unless you apply the brakes firmly, then you get that nice downshift rev matching.
For most drivers, I don't think the sudden revving is a good idea for panic stops in D. The brakes are more than capable of stopping the car, far more than any contribution from engine braking when stopping hard. I found the sudden revving pretty distracting when I did not expect it. I suspect most other drivers did too. I felt that it should not do that in D.
If you are going down a hill and braking and the engine braking effect is useful, then yes it does downshift on its own, but again, it is not excessive and distracting like before.
Most people don't expect a car to go "ZOOOOM" when you slam on the brakes. So I think it is good they got rid of that in D and left it in DS but calmed it down slightly.
It is still a lot of fun in DS with the downshifting when you brake, but it's not crazy/nutty/harsh about it anymore. If one wants to be more aggressive, just use the paddles. Before there was no refined option because the trans was being aggressive and random and harsh all the time even in D.

Aggressive downshifting on "spirited" braking is fine to reserve for DS.
Moderate downshifting on coasting, like we have in the original '09 D mode I would hope would still be included in DS, but it sounds like they toned it down--too bad. It is a fantastic way to avoid riding the brake needlessly and is perfectly smooth if you drive "normally" for a manual tranny and don't use the throttle as a toggle switch.
As I said, if they kept the moderate downshifting on coasting from the original D, but put it over to DS, I would simply use DS by default after the reflash and all would be fine. Everyone else could have their Hyundai/Lexus auto tranny behaviour in D and I could keep the old D behaviour (now in DS), but gain the smoothness and other benefits of the reflash.
