The ls1 z28 and SS camaros were rated at I believe 305 and 315hp. In reality they were 350hp just like the corvette.

it's been done for many years.
I remember 87 buick grand national was underated.
specifically gnx model was a sleeper.
more recent the 2011 mustang 5.0
rated at 412 hp at the crank yet pulls 395whp that would be less than 9% parasitic loss.
pulls a 1/4 within a .1 of the m3.
underating is smart your direct competition false numbers to play with.
I'd say the stang is around 450hp.
proboably for insurance reasons.

Nah our car is in GT5 as the skyline 370GT and the Infiniti 07 concept. Both reads 328 as the horsepower.

First of all, they use a 15 to 20% drivetrain loss figure for BMW, but then then jump to 20 to 25% drivetrain loss for Infiniti? LOL

The truth is that drivetrain losses are significantly less than 20 to 25%. All they have to do is perform a coast-down test on the dyno to learn the true drivetrain losses. Using a more real-world figure of 15%, that puts the VQ right where it should be for its 330 HP rating.

So no, the VQ engine is not underrated.

Car companies also overrate HP figures sometimes too. There have actually been lawsuits over the fact that a car didn't put out its advertised HP. Look up the 1999 Mustang Cobra if you want a good example. Same thing happened to Mazda.

When a car is underrated, some people like to say it's because of "insurance reasons". That may have been true back in the '60's, but not today. Insurance companies don't use HP ratings to determine insurance rates anymore. Today, most manufacturers slightly underrate their HP numbers simply to avoid lawsuits. So many people have access to dynos that it wouldn't take long for a lynch mob to develop once a few people posted dyno graphs on an Internet message forum. Car companies know this and will be very careful with their advertised HP rating. Just look at the the new 5.0L Mustang for example.

I don't think the HP is underrated for this car. However, for some reason it does feel like it has a bit more torque than the 270 lb/ft would suggest.

I "TOTALLY" Agree with you there. I own a G35 Coupe before my G37. Supposedly, they have the exact same amount of torque. But Hell it's a totally different story when driving them.

Haha, that is so true. Everyone kept saying our car is "not that fast". But Come on ! Just try and tell me another V6 car with as much Horse Power as our car(raw hp not sc or anything). 330hp on a V6 is no joke.

I totally agree with the recent statements about the VQ37VHR and its power output, I think it's spot on, no underrate. So I'm sitting here thinking about how many other manufacturers making similar NA displacement V6's and it's hard to find one with similar output. *Remember Nissan/Infinti is doing it without direct injection, imagine what the output would be with it!

Since it's Sunday after Xmas and I'm bored, I took some time to study all the recent manufacturer offerings for NA V6's (eliminated I-6, H-6, VR6) based on their site specs.

Available NA V6 with the highest output from each manufacturer:
Acura's 3.7 - 305hp
Audi 3.2 FSI- 270hp (they have to supercharge their 3.0 to get 300hp)
