6MT Drivers: My 1-2 shift is very notchy!
I've noticed this happening more frequently now to the point where it happens almost every time. I shift out of first gear anywhere from 2.5k RPM to 3.5k RPM and whenever I do, I can feel that the shift isn't going through smoothly through my shifter. It's enough so that you can actually hear the gear going in with music off. I am sure I am pushing down on the clutch 100%. Does anyone else have this issue or is this something I should bring up at my next appointment?

I agree there is a shift spot (1st to 2nd) that I get that feels like butter and the car just takes off, I get it about 5-10% of the time. Usually happens for me in tight traffic. damn.

1. How many miles on your current trans fluid? If you drive in a spirited manner, I'd recommend changing it more frequently. Fresh fluid makes the tranny feel GREAT.
2. Do you skip downshift?
3. Does this happen at any time on a 1-2 shift or only when the trans is cold?

I find that if, for the same shift point in terms of RPM...If I hit the gas harder to get there the notchiness subsides and it feels right going into all gears. If I ease into the gas, to that same shift point (at the lower gears 1->2, 2->3), I get the notchiness.

Sometimes I get this feeling of notchy shifting if I shift too fast and slam on the clutch pedal. It's most likely from the synchros not catching up to your shifting. A reason it probably feels less notchy when you rev higher is because you wait longer to let the rpms fall before shifting, giving your synchros time to sync up.
