It's not the gas freezing (which can happen at around -90 degrees F). Must be a problem with fuel delivery or spark. Time for a dealer trip .. hopefully they can reproduce the problem.

LOL ... better read a little more closely. There should not be that much water mixed in with the gas.

gas line freeze

It's not the gas that freezes - it doesn't get that cold even in MN. Moisture in the tank can condense and freeze in the line - it doesn't take al lot to restrict or close off the flow of fuel. More likely to happen with an almost empty tank. There are isopropyl additives (Heet) that are sold in the cold climates to prevent - many gasolines also have it in some form.

This seems to be the best guess.

Was the engine still cold? I'm wondering if it's the weight of the oil. Maybe it would be a good idea to try a 0w-40?

This has happened to me (08 coupe) once. The car had sat for 5 days and weather was below freezing. I did not warm it up. Drove to post office and when I came out the engine would not rev over 2500. After several near stalls and embarrassing shaking I learned if I didn't allow the rev to 2500 I could limp home (30 mph in fifth gear). About half mile from home, suddenly everything fine and my modded and uprev tuned friend was hot again. Hasn't happened since but always warmup if cold or sitting for awhile.

Spontaneous 2500 RPM Limit

Has this issue ever been definitively resolved?

This happened to me for the first (and hopefully only) time yesterday.

Temperature was in the mid 40's. Car had been driven the day before w/ no problems. Car was warmed up. 1/2 tank of gas. No indicator lights on dash. Car would not rev over 2500 rpm...tried in neutral, turned off engine and restarted still would not work.

I limped along changing gears at just under 2500 until I arrived at my destination. I left the engine on, checked under the hood (nothing to note) and tried pushing the rpms over 2500 again in neutral -- no luck.

I turned the engine off and immediately started it up again...and all was well!

I have a 2008 G37S Coupe 6MT w/ 61,000 miles on the odometer.

What gives?

One final note, this strikes me as computer/electronics issue b/c the 2500 limit was very precise.

Thanks in advance for your collective insight.

With the ethanol content in US fuel, getting an ice blockage in the lines is very unlikely.
