Car not starting after audio install

Hi All,

I've had my car in the shop getting a new sound system put in. The system was nearing completion so the shop hooked everything back up. They then tried to start the car and it starts to crank over and over but never fully starts up all the way.

Since I had heard of all the battery issues with the 2008's and the battery was getting low on juice after a lot of attempts to start it up like this we got a battery charging station hooked up to it to make sure it has enough power.

The audio shop has unhooked and uninstalled everything wiring wise to see if it was something they did but it is still doing it even after doing all that. They have also checked the fuses under the dash, in the box next to the battery and the fuses attached to that fuse block thing attached to the battery itself and no fuses are bad it appears.

The car is throwing no codes at all and everything seems to be fine but it just won't start up all the way.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be that is causing it? Any help would be appreciated.

I've got a 2008 G37S 6MT.

Thanks!

Is the intellegent key in the car when the try to start it? How long was the car disconnected. It sounds like maybe the security system of the intellegent key is not letting the car start. They may have disconnected that system. ***IF*** it is this problem then you will have to have the car towed to infiniti to get the keyS(yes all your keys) reprogrammed.

The key is in the car and everything appears normal. If the key was the problem then the car itself shouldn't even acknowledge that I am pressing the "start" button it should just say "no key" or some such, correct?

Everything looks fine the car tries to crank and crank and crank and crank as long as I hold the clutch in. The car just never actually turns all the way over and starts.

try push starting it, if it starts up change out the battery. If that doesnt work, take it to the dealer. Make sure that the connections on the battery and grounds are tight.

Yeah it would say no key.
Did someone disconnect the fuel pump. Fuel pump fuse?

Edit. Try what Godzilla said too. if the battery is bad it can crank but not start. Worth a try

We thought it might be the fuel pump but they checked all the fuses. Do you have any idea which fuse it is and where? I just picked up an Optima yellow top and we are going to give that a try.

We'll give the push start a try though to see how that works.

Thanks for the info guys.

If it's the battery, the car usually will not crank. Turn the car to the on position by pressing the button twice, without stepping on the brake or clutch. Do you hear the fuel pump coming on?

What would that sound like and any general location it would come from?

I know we've tried turning it into the "on" position without the clutch depressed but I didn't listen for anything at that point. I'll give that a try and see what we can or can't hear.

The fuel pump sit right under the passenger side of the rear seat. When the car is turned on, you should hear a buzzing sound from there. If not, that's your problem.

When they did the stereo install did they remove the backseats? If so have them check the wiring underneath the seat, to make sure that they didn't knock anything loose.

Cool thanks for the info on the fuel pump location ModMe I'll give that a try.

godzilla619:
Is there wiring under the back seat that goes to the fuel pump or some such?

Yep. The back seat bottom cushion comes out really easy. Just pull up from the front of it and it pops up. Fuel pump is underneath the passenger side seat.

So we just checked and there is no sound coming from the fuel pump so that definitely looks like the problem. We're going to check the connections and all that to the pump and see what went sideways.

Thanks for all the info.
