6MT drivers: at what RPM do you shift out of first?

I've always shifted at around 3k RPM, as I usually do with all other gears... but I'm thinking maybe I'm shifting too late? Do a lot of you guys shift as soon as you get the car moving?

Wait until 3.5 - 4K RPM shift to 2nd and by the time you let the clutch paddle out it will be around 2.5K RPM very smooth.

+1.... this car had the worst clutch engagement point getting out of 1st gear. My '03 Civic is much smoother in comparison. Nevertheless, the G is still a blast to drive.

During daily driving.. my shift point is at 3K.

Totally depends....there's no right or wrong answer. You can shift at virtually any RPM depending upon the road/conditions/desired acceleration etc...

3500 RPM, give or take a few hundred. In city driving, I usually let the revs drop a bit then go to 3rd for a smooth transition.

Oh yea, the 1st-2nd transition is a royal PITA in the G37.

Thanks to this thread. I noticed sometimes i have problems with the 1-2 shift but i was upshifting at 2300-2500 RPMS.

This car is pretty strange to drive, especially with all the clutch noises at idle, but its been a while since i drove stick (5 years).

Regardless, i am surprised how much slower i am driving around compared to my g35 sedan (2007), and i am getting way better fuel economy.... Never knew driving slow can save that much gas
