Shifting from 1st to 2nd in the G37S 6MT

Forum Members,
I know this topic has been discussed before and I have tried some of the other solutions stated in other threads. I currently own a G37S Sedan 6 MT and it is only a few weeks old. This is not my first manual but I admit like other members that this car is more difficult to shift in relative to other cars.

What my car typically does is it makes a "clunk" noise while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear within the rpm range of around 2000 to 3000 rpms with the clutch pushed all the way down. I can sometimes eliminate this "clunk" shift noise by either shifting at 2000 rpms with the clutch pushed half way out or go above 3000 rpms of which I am not fond since the majority of my driving is city.

Is this something normal that happens to our cars while shifting from 1st to 2nd with the "clunk" noise?

Is this something I should take to the dealership to have them take a look at it?

Your thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

I get that noise also, from what I heard, it's normal. The only way to get rid of it, is to go aftermarket.

i'm running a JWT clutch and flywheel and still get the clunck..its actually the teeth of the 2nd gear engadgment ring, It's really a function of the syncro to match the rotating speeds of the two gears so they align and slide in smooth, for some reason it's common for this tranny to "clunck" when you shift into second like a human being???

Its absolutely normal. Just purchased my 6MT Coupe last week, and when i noticed that noise, I went straight back to the dealer. The mechanic told me the reason for that noise apparently is because of the short shift basically what he tried to make me understand was that underneath the shifter its connected directly to the gear ratio something.. I probably did not understand right but wtv.. Important is that its normal.. .

Clunk is fine. Mine grinds when shifting from 1-2 when driving spiritedly. I'll have the dealership check it out soon...

okay now i have problems.

I hard all this clanging under the car today. Noticed when i pushed the clutch in, the sound disappeared.

When i shut the car off without pressing the clutch, it makes a noise like a rattling exhaust. Hwne i restarted the car and PRESSED the clutch no noise.

THe car now only has 1,400 kms and is less than a month old. Taking it back to the dealership very soon.

I traded in my 2007 G35 sedan because it was UNREPAIRABLE, already had a blown up VQ35HR replaced under warranty, and then for 6 months, had issues with some crazy BS electronics problems after 15 visits and no solutions.

I bought this 2010 because i was unable to trade in my POS 07 G35 sedan, and Infiniti dealer made good and sold me the G37 S at a huge discount to counter all the crap i dealt with.

I have never had any luck with nissans or infinitis. I hope this issue is okay with my 2010 (simple fix PLEASE!!!!). i will never buy another nissan/infiniti again after this.. Too many issues!

Thanks for the responses. I guess the thing that bothers me is that the sound is so mechanical and I can't see why there wouldn't be any long term effects to the clunking. But if anyone has any comments, please post.
