are their any other benefits to downshift rev matching besides less transmission wear during engine braking?

I think that's pretty big and important benefit since you're slowing down as much as you're speeding up. Are you looking for something in specific?

i was thinking maybe the car is quicker when downshifting at speed with the rev matching feature as opposed to if it did not have revmatching?

IMHO, the best benefit is it's smoother. Slow down as you near a turn, car d/s without affecting F/R balance, tranny is in the proper gear, hit apex and power out.

Without DRM's on automatics, usually one of two common things happen:
- You force a downshift, affecting balance (i.e. nosedive from abrupt engine braking), which in turn affects handling.

- You don't force a downshift, tranny will likely stay in gear, but you may no longer be in the right rpm-range for coming out of that turn quick enough.

yes it greatly reduces wear on the tranny.....but the biggest thing for me is that it provides me with a much higher level of control when driving this car the way it was intended. There is nothing better than to brake late & hard, hit your mark, and fly out of a corner in the correct gear/rpm. Now, that being said it's not perfect & cannot account for driver intuition, surroundings, hazards, etc... so you have to keep that in mind. DS to me is simply auto pilot game mode....like playing Gran Turismo in an auto trans Ferrari, too easy & not enough though. Force yourself to practice manual input and truly spend time learning your ride on the paddles (or auto-stick if you don't have the paddles). After a while it all becomes second nature and you become one with the G. This car is an absolute blast to drive once you start wearing it vs. driving it.....

Down shift rev match gets you in the proper gear at the given speed without upsetting the car's balance.

+1. I love hearing the engine purr when it downshifts into a curve, and then gas out of it.
