Yeah, I don't like E10. But not for the 10% ethanol... that's fine. I'm not keen on E10 because here in the US it's made from corn, instead of sugar cane, like in Brazil. The whole burn-your-food thing feels like a system ripe for abuse.

Now if they could create the ethanol from switch-grass, or some other high cellulose, non-food based plant, that would be fine.

Funny where we draw the line sometimes. Life is full of compromises and contradictions.

I hate ethanol, but I am not aware of any option to avoid it here in Colo. Used to have MTBE, also, but no more.

If you feel like disregarding the manual and assuming you know more than the Engineers, great, go ahead and run low octane in a car with 11:1 compression. I'm not into losing performance over a few bucks or trying to out guess the Engineers. The anti knock systems are not fast enough to catch all detonation. They detect it as it occurs, then retard the timing in response, which is not instantaneous - and that in theory gives you some very small amount of damage each time.

I only use premium 93 filled-up at top-tier gas stations such as Shell, Sunoco, Exxon, etc.
Seems like we might live in the same area because I know the feeling of going through Monmouth County and going 80-15-60-0-65-0-10-0-15-0

My current G37S loves regular and gives me great hi way mileage

Photo taken after a fillup and a 50 mile drive to work at 65 MPHMuch of what is being posted on this topic is total BS

I did a one month test years ago on my G35 using 91 for one month and 93 for one month.
MPG dropped and the test was a waste of money.
Returned using 87 octane and I've used it ever since.
I generally fill up at WaWA

I came in this thread for you --- I'm very curious how do you drive your car? I tried driving 65 once. Once.

If you drive 65mph here in Socal, you are likely to get mowed down. Even when I try to go 70mph while being MPG conscience, people tailgate and become unstable. 75-80 is where you need to be in order to keep up with the pace of traffic.

I grew up out east where the posted speed limit must be adhered to as you have 5-0 hiding in the bushes with radar at every twist of the highway, so I know how how crazy this must sound.

Near the shore.

Exactly, nail on the head. And that is the reason I don't drive a manual any more.

How do I drive my car?

Well I've been driving stick shifts for a very long time.
My speed varies between 65 and 80, however on the test drives in the early morning hours the posted speed limit is 55 and I generally don't go over 65 as the NJ State Police are out there.
After my fill up I usually do not have to stop at the two traffic lights before entering the NJ Turnpike. I can in most mornings not have to touch my brakes until I get to work 50 miles away. I do a lot of downshifting on entrance ramps. Got 85k miles on my OEM brakes on my 06 G35 before they needed replacement.
Lets just say I drive smart and only use the power of my G37S to get around the many in NJ that don't know how to drive. Especially the ones in the left lane that refuse to keep to the right.

BTW Route 9 South was great last Saturday morning at 7:30 AM on my way to a free 8 AM Apple OS7 workshop at the Freehold Raceway Mall.

Id sa i really get on a true average 19. gas here(I dont use e90) is about 3.80-3.90..

Don't be cheap you don't have a choice but to use 91 or higher octane.

I wouldn't use any other gasoline except Chevron, Shell or 76.
If you were referring to a non computer controlled car without fuel injection and knock sensors, I would agree with you. However, the G is capable of running on anything from 87 on up. Sure, it likes the 91 and I've even been known to put a 50/50 mix of 90 and 100 octane just for grins. What the engine is doing is extracting the best balance of drivability and performance for the octane fuel its burning. (to a point) the engine will adjust ignition timing and in the VQ even adjust valve timing to compensate for the octane excess or deficiency. True enough the car will perform best and offer the best economy when run with 91/92 octane but going higher or lower is not going to damage anything as long as the car is operating properly. As for your lines and pumps, your more opt to suffer damage from a high ethanol fuel blend than with 87 octane gasoline.

I'm fairly certain that it's difficult to find anything with less than 10% ethanol throughout the western US.

I'm glad someone else covered this. My mechanic told me 93 is the way to go because of our amazingly awesome engine!

Most of the time I use 91 here in Atlanta BUT I get the additives or sometimes the RACE FUEL. You can add to your engine to increase up to 98 octane. Depends how many ounces you add per gallon that increase the octane proportionally. Let me find the web site and I will post it.
Definitely nothing less than 91.

Are you tuned or boosted? If not you're wasting money using that stuff.
