Re: Vdc off/slip

This is a continuation of an original post titled "VDC OFF/SLIP" that was closed. Whenever I decide to push my 08 G37s anywhere past 5000 RPMs, I see BRAKE flash across my dash. Unless I tap the brake which defeats the purpose of pushing the car the way it's meant to be driven, I quickly get the annoying "VDC OFF/SLIP" lights. These as many of you have noted stay on, even if you switch the VDC button off. You ultimately need to shut off the car and restart (which I've now done a number of times at red lights).

If none of the posted reasons do not apply, are there any other reasons why this happens?
  • Speed sensors (in the back of the hub)
  • Brake pads low
  • Brake fluid low
  • Incorrect tire sizes
  • Alignment

How likely is the tire size going be the cause??? I have the original 19" stock rims but upgraded my rubbers to 225 (front) & 245 (rear).

Sounds like incorrect tire size... if there was a problem with the speed sensors you'd have a solid ABS light on, if it were brake fluid level the light would be on at lower rpm as well and also that would not effect the VDC system.
Look up the overall diameter and revs per mile of the tires you are currently running and compare them to that of the stock rubber.. (fronts are 26.9"-774rpm , rear 26.8"-777rpm) If the revs per mile are not within a specific % window your going to have VDC issues.

Just re-reading your post.....how is 225 front and 245 rear an upgrade? those are the stock widths. Was your car a base model and you upgraded to sport sizes? If you are running the factory sport sizes than dissregard my previous post.

My mistake. I actually went up to 245 (front) and 275 (rear) with the Yokohama S Drives.

If you're having the same issues, have you found any easy fixes to it? You're right, it's extremely annoying.

Those may be OEM on a 350z but on G they are the wrong fronts, your sizing puts you at 25.9" up front (804 revs per mile) and pretty much close to stock out back at 26.7" (780 revs per mile).
The stock configuration has only a difference of 3 revs/mile, your at 26.
This could be whats causing your VDC errors, switch back to stock G wheels and sizes to see if the error goes away.

Good point, Mike. My issue was a result of something different as I still had stock 19's but wider tires (275/245s). After bringing it to the dealer, I found out my brakes were low after putting on just over 30K miles and the brake fluid needed replacing. Going from 245 to 275 shouldn't make a difference in triggering the sensors, but $600 later I've got new brakes and no annoying lights going off.

Same issue

I have this issue too. It just started recently. This is the first time I have seen it. I have 43K on the car and the last time I checked the brakes looked fine. The first few times it was only the brake light flashing so I figured the pads were low and I needed to top off the fluid. Now I can trigger the VDC slip indicator and it stays on until the car is restarted. Can we confirm it is worn brakes? Why does it trigger the VDC? IIRC the manual says something about servicing the VDC if this ever becomes an issue. How tough is it to change the Diff fluid? Is this happening on all models or only autos or only autos with LSD?
