CAI (cold air intake) Reviews....

Many of us are not comfortable turboing, or supercharging the motor. For that matter, we can add a little this, a little that, to our motors, or persue forced induction in the future, using this as a means to hold us over.

I wanted to post this up because their are just a ton of threads with CAI questions, purchases and small reviews.

We need pics!

Please post your CAI pics, and a review about the system you are using.

I have not purchased one yet, and wanted to see what is the best on the market I can buy, with the best gain, easiest install, and functionable MAFs. Basically plug n play.

Thanks guys!

(hope to get this sticked)

I have something posted up here:

https://www.myg37.com/forums/intake-...mparisons.html

... regarding the Stillen Gen 3 longtubes, and the R2c short ram CAI.

They are both tops in their market IMO. Stillen has more gains, R2c has an easier install, and superior filters.

Since you're looking for the easiest installation, I'd go with the R2cs.

He said it perfectly. Stillen's Gen3 CAI is the best you'll find. But the install may be a little too involved for some (IMO it is insanely easy though). But any SRI is much easier to install than the Gen3.

So out of these two, this is my best bet, excluding all other options?

would there be any worry about flooding or damping with the position of the stillen gen3?

unless you drive your car into a lake...no. there is nothing to worry about in terms of water or hydro-locking your engine. I speak from experience driving in flood causing levels of rain more than once and have never had a problem at all.

and yes, IMO the Gen3 is the absolute best bet for intake if you are looking for a CAI. It sounds the best, looks the best, and gives the best results.

As far as sound, I honestly couldn't tell a difference between it and the stock intakes with my HFCs and Fast Intentions exhaust. For me, the R2cs are quite a bit louder. As far as which system I'm keeping, I'm not sure just yet. I'm getting the Stillens powder coated so I'll see what they look like.

If you're only considering CAI, I think there's only Injen and Stillen Gen 3 right now.

I think so too. Not too many CAI available yet.

The cold air intake CAI is going to give you a better gain and typically also more costly to add. While the Stillen Gen 3, you have to cut away, the Injen also has you removing some car parts as well, such as the windsheild washer tank and the relocation of the horn.

The short ram intake is by far the easiest way to go, there is no cutting or relocating of anything. The costs depending on what you choose is going to be less, the question really comes down to how much more of a gain are going to get SRI vs. CAI, there are some dynos that were done on here. To me personally, if I could save a few hundred here or there and gain less than 4-7 hp going with an SRI vs. a CAI. I am all for it, as that is not going to make a substantial difference. Besides it is easier to go with an SRI and keep your stock intake if you ever decide to turn in your car, great for leases...

I found a decent review of the Stillen intake on MotoIQ.com. They seem to like it a lot.

Stillen

Their conclusion: "Stillen if you are reading this, you can first pat yourselves on the back. Your intake makes 3x the power of the previous best intake we tested before. Then get to work and design us a cold air bumper vent kit. 15whp and 12 lb ft of torque applied over a wide rpm range is awesome, awesome, awesome. Stillen's Gen 3 intake now gets our 370Z bang for the buck award."
