A place called Failsafe Performance in Tulsa OK. They are the only dealers in OK and have only been around for a year or so. I was his first g37, but he has done several g35's and even supercharged 370z's.

The O2 sensors at the manifolds (pre-cat) are widebands. not the best but they're not bad for tuning N/A. The cipher cable is really good. Had my car datalogged many times for various things, codes checked/cleared, etc.

Another question. The tuner said he wasn't able to do anything with timing and could only do the a/f. Yet reading other threads on here of peoples tunes they've gotten the most results with adjusting the timing.

Ignition timing can definitely be adjusted. Cam timing however is not due to VVEL.

I have the Tuner version myself. That way I can take it to any tuner and tune the car for me rather than be stuck with a single person.

OK thats what I was thinking. I'm gonna give uprev a call in the morning then call the tuner and see whats up. It kinda sucks since he's almost 2 hours away and I'm gonna have to drive back up there.

Just another update. I went last week to another shop and did some dyno pulls in 3rd gear and to see what the a/f numbers looked like. The tuned map was running much leaner than the stock map.

I finally got the guy that did the tune on the phone yesterday and asked him about this. First he asked where we took the a/f from and I told him they got it off the tailpipe. When he tuned it he took it off the cat. He said doing it at the tail pipe can be almost a whole point off. I guess when he tuned it he said it was actually running too rich and he leaned it up. I also told him the tuned run made less power and tq across the board compared to the stock map. He said it could have been because we didn't let it cool down enough between runs. I told him we waited 5-10minutes between each one and the stock run that made the most power was actually the last run we did for the day.

I'm going to go back up to him on friday so he can do some data logging and see if he can fix the problem. When I go back up there what a/f numbers should we be looking for? I've heard some people say the VQ37 has the best results around 12.5-12.6. And how can I tell if he's got the a/f and timing adjusted right?

Here's the dyno graphs from the other shop

Run 2 and 5 are the base map. Run 2 was map slot 3 in UpRev and run 5 was map slot 4 in UpRev using the cruis control. They shouldn't be different but I just wanted to check. For some reason map 4 was slightly leaner.
Run 3 was the tuned run.

If you want to talk AFR and how it's measured or how it should be measured, pm me and I'll give you my number. I don't feel like writing everything down (been a long week).

Damn sucks to hear all of this happen Alex, I would like to think Chris knows what he's doing since he's dealt mostly with VQ's , in for the outcome, what shop was it that you ended up going to?

Yeah I figured he'd be the guy to go to since he's handled VQ's before. I could have just been the fact this was his first 37 too. When I talked to him on the phone monday he wasn't aware of any of the issues with the 5AT on the dyno. The one auto 370z he did was the 7speed. I'm gonna try to go back up there on friday and see if we can get things worked out. I'm hoping it will go alot better.

The shop I went to for the other dyno's was Abel Racing in MWC. On wednesdays they have dyno pulls for 2 for $40 and only 10 bucks a pull after that if you ever want to check it out.

If they are measuring the AFR after the cats, they are doing it wrong. If they are using the stock sensor before the cats, they are doing it wrong.

Where are they supposed to measure it at? And how big of a difference can it make?

Closer to the engine the better. That's why sticking it at the end can be a little off. Our stock sidebands if memory serves me well shows 1 point rich when in fact it is not
