400HP Possible N/A?

We can only hope that one day Infiniti will make a G56 straight from the factory. Or a G37TT or SC. But until then without going boosted I don't see any getting about 230whp. Is that 400hp at the crank? Idk because I'm not sure how anyone would measure this. (without using drivetrain loss formulas as those are not always exactly accurate)
I would recommend just focusing on your whp as that's what's actually putting the power to the pavement.

I just wrote a four paragraph explanation that didn't load and lost it all. I'll try again but it won't be as thorough.
The VVEL is such a finicky system that I don’t know of anyone who has disassembled the components and put them back together. There are no less than three major sections in the shop service manual that work with the VVEL. If you like, pm me your email and I’ll try to send you a couple sections of the manual, they’re a couple megabytes each.
In order to do any valve work, install larger valves, or port the heads, the heads have to be disassembled. The problematic part looks to be putting the heads back together and getting the VVEL back to a working order. To my knowledge, no one has broke the code in order to manipulate the VVEL timing. Different cams would have to have a different programming for the VVEL. I don’t see any aftermarket company having the ability or time to do the R&D necessary for new cams.
In another thread, someone mentioned putting on older heads (without VVEL). That would allow you to get some head work done and custom cams. But how do you tell the computer to disregard the VVEL stuff. If I read things right, the VVEL is integrated into the programming of the car so much that it’s all the way in to how the APPS reacts (accelerator pedal position sensor).
I would love to do heads and cams. I did my truck a couple years ago and did my dads 300C SRT8 last year. If I bought a car with an LS engine, heads and cam would be on order before I registered the car.
I just don’t see any head or cam upgrades for this engine any time soon if ever. Please, for the love God!, someone prove me wrong.

Talk about a tuners delight. That would rock.
I know about the heads and cam swap. Did it in a Grand Prix GTP. Went from 240 to 400. Cost about $4G's but was worth every penny. That also included a ported S/C, CAI, exhaust, PCM, TB and some other goodies. Butt dyno was off the chart. Those were fun and easy cars to wrench on.

that's the thing, the vvel is a tunners nightmare. So many things to bypass & to many computers communicating.
you can spend 7500 for a tt kit plus the install, you will exceed way beyond the 400hp at the crank. Or a stage 2 gtm kit for 20k, then your in the 600hp club.
you seem to know alot about other cars, whp is what matters at the end of the day, not the crank hp.

It's perfectly fine to talk about horsepower at the crank. Rear wheel horsepower is just a function of that and losses through the drivetrain. When you're talking to engine builders, trying to dial in a torque convertor, building a transmission, ordering axles or driveshafts and all that stuff you have to be able to talk about what the engine is putting out.

Maybe we should all collect some money and bribe the Nissan VVEL engineer to have him send us a crack for that b!tch lol
