I think it is safe to say that 6 cylinders in a V configuration is most likely to remain in the G series vehicles, at least for the foreseeable future. They can get plenty of power out of a V6, with a decent balance of fuel economy as well.

alright, i hope this question doesn't stray away from the topic too much, but what about the forced inductions kits out for the car? with such a high heat system (do we push high compression too?), how the hell is the car making so much reliable power? again, completely amateur here playing with words. can the stillen s/c run reliably on the track (+oil cooler)? I wonder, if you take it past 4k rpm everyday, is an oil cooler a good idea?

Iv never seen the engine actually overheating, it just kicks in limp mode because of the oil temp. With an oil cooler this engine would have no problem running hard all day.

Limp mode IS overheating.

Even with an oil cooler, it will overheat. If you are not experiencing overheating, it is because you are not pushing the car hard enough.

Well, to be fair, 98% of the drivers will never hit limp under any circumstances. The VQ does have a history of being prone to overheating (see 3rd generation)

Probably more like 99.5%

It's basically impossible to do it on the street and hardly anyone tracks these cars. My guess is less than 1 percent of owners have ever even been on a track.

I feel like this motor is a split personality. It’s smooth under normal driving (less than 5000 rpms.) and becomes a screamer for aggressive driving (over 5000 rpms). Sure, there’s more NVH over 5000 rpms, but I like the feel and noise of a 300+ motor racing to 7500rpms. I don’t want total isolation from what’s going on under the hood at all times.

It’s a luxury car when I’m driving around with clients and it’s a sports sedan when I want to feel like I’m not driving a Honda Accord. The firm feel of the sports suspension is a constant reminder that I'm driving a sporty car (not a sports car).

When I read threads like this I always remind myself that I bought my car for $36K. It has a BBK, sports suspension, LSD, 6MT and 300+ hp. With a good launch, it’s high 13 second car in the ¼ mile. Nothing else can touch this car for $36K.

2011 Mustang GT? It's quite the performer.

You'd be surprised... quite a few so-cal members have hit it with some... motivated driving on the street.

Does that come with four doors? This is the sedan forum!

Just kidding. My last two cars were Mustang GT's. A real bang for the buck, no doubt and the new one's are the best of all. Ford has also jacked up the price over the last few years.

I need a sedan.

Notice how big the transmission tunnel is inside the 3-series v. the G. It eats up legroom width-wise in the 3-series. On the plus side it helps with weight distribution (less front heavy).

I probably would have bought a 3-series if my knees weren't so cramped from pressing against the transmission tunnel.

The VQ needs more torque. And fuel economy. And less NVH. And other stuff. It is my bet that the 2012 Gs will be sporting new engine designs....
