You don't necessarily need a special filter for synthetic oils. When it comes down to it, they're pretty much all made of similar filter-papery material.

Some people use Synthetic oil for extended oil change intervals -- the manufacturers of synthetic oils & filters claim their filters will last longer than conventional filters to keep up with the longer life of the oil. There's evidence that both supports and discredits that theory, so whether you believe that is up to you.

But whether that's true or not, if you are going with the standard oil change interval, there's probably no reason you can't use your oem filters.

I've always used the oem with dino or syn oil. From what I hear, the Nissan oil filter is pretty good for an oem.

I like Wix filters, but will also use an OEM one. General statement, not specifically related to Nissan / Infiniti.

I'm using OEM right now, but I use Purolator on my other car after i saw how well the air filters were built. They seem to be built much better than other aftermarket filters such as Fram.

PureOnes are my filter of choice. Very popular with sport bikers.
As good as the M1s, or K&Ns at half the price and much more
available.

Last I heard the Nissan filters ARE indeed re-badged fram filters.
The Nissan filters have cardboard endcaps and the only filter I know that uses that are Frams (and other Fram manufactured filters)

I've only had one oil change so far; I used a PureOne for the new filter. So far the engine has not exploded or leaked oil.
