Engine revs to 3000 rpm at start

Just wondering if this happens to anyone else...

When I first start my car in the morning the engine automatically revs to 3000 rpm. Of course this is really bad for the engine since there's no oil pressure yet. You can even hear a bit of rod knock! Luckily I use Mobil 1, but this is still not cool in my book.

I've noticed on cold mornings its a bit higher like almost 3,000 rpm then drops down after warming up for a minute. I agree that the cold idle is too frigin high!

My question is can this be manually adjusted or is it a computer thing?

Actually I correct my post as it only goes to about 2,500 max. I live in Miami and thats on a cold morning in the 50's. Maybe if the engine is colder its higher?

My cold starts are 1,500 rpm and it's been pretty cold here in North Florida for the last week or so (upper 20's and low 30's in the a.m.). The rpm's gradually decrease to normal in about 1 - 2 minutes.

Get an accusump if you're that worried

Oil pressure ramps very quickly, and remember, viscosity is thicker when cold.

Mine does the same thing 1500rpm on a cold start. Im in VA 20-30s on mornings lately. I don't even have to press the gas pedal to go, just let the clutch go slowly and there she goes. Once it warms up it is in the normal 700-800rpm idle.

mine does something like that... ramps to 2K+ and gradually goes down over a period of 1-2min. Every car I ever had has done that when cold...

Mine goes to about 1500 for a few seconds. It takes about a minute for the revs to drop below 1k which is what I wait for before ever heading out...

My 09 coupe revs up to about 2K here in Dallas and gradually moves down over a minute or so. I also had an 08 G35 sedan that did the exact same thing.

Let me AD though that maybe the higher revers are Manual???
My car is Manual so I would Imagine the manuals vs autos to rev higher while in neutral on a cold start.

It'll rev till about 2K on cold starts, but if you tap on the throttle even slightly, it will start climbing to about 3K.
