Mine usually starts at about 1750 on a cold day, but I take off once it reaches around 1100-1200. 3000 definitely doesn't sound normal to me...

Haven't hit the 3k point in several starts now - 1800 seems to be the average which isn't too bad.

And the guy that suggested I put a new oil pan on a brand new car is a tool. Rod knock is bad, regardless of viscosity or how quickly the pressure ramps.
