Question Coming up on 3750 miles - oil change?

Hi everyone. First time poster and my first luxury car purchase, so go easy on a newbie. For those who have had oil changes done on your 09 g37 coupes, do you do it at 3750 or 7000 miles? My driving is probably around 70 highway/30 local. I'm very careful with the car and don't drive it aggressively. I'm usually under the speed limit (65 mph in California) and have never driven the car past 75 mph.

Can I get by with doing an oil change at 7000 miles or would it be better that I do it at 3750 miles? I've looked at the service and maintenance guide manual and under schedule 1 (3750 miles), my driving patterns aren't even remotely close to what's stated in schedule 1. Therefore, I thought I would go with schedule 2, which is an oil change at 7500 miles.

Also, where do you guys take your g37's to get the oil changed? Do you take it to the dealership? Since this is my first luxury car, I thought it would be better to take it to the dealership to get the oil change, as I'm kind of weary of taking the car to an untrusted mechanic.

Since it's the first oil change I'd go ahead and do it at 3750. After that you can consider going longer, 5000-7000. I'd consider getting a used oil analysis done from blackstone labs to really see how the oil holds up in your engine. Then you will be able to tell if you can go longer between changes or not. Just take it to the dealer and get it done.

I agree with wake. Do the first change at 3750, your "break in" oil change. Then after that, it sounds like your driving habits are more in line with 7500 mile OCI.

You needn't use the dealership, their prices are higher. If you want to take it to the dealership instead of doing it yourself, Nissan dealerships will have the correct filter and generally charge less for an oil change than Infiniti dealers.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Mine car is pretty new so still under 3750 miles even, but my plan is to do what Black Betty suggested, do an oil change at 3750. I guess I'd do one at 7500 also, but then after 7500 go to a 7500 miles interval for service unless my driving habits change.

Sticking with 3750, why spend 40k plus on a car and then go cheap with the oil. Regular oil changes is probably the most important thing you can do for the longevity of your car. I have never understood this but have read it on every forum I've been on for every car I've owned.

Change it for sure at 3,750. Also note the warranty is for the oil changes at that amount of mileage. If you change it at every say 7,000 to 8,000, something goes wrong with engine and dealership can prove it, it may not be covered as a result.

I like to change mine around 4-5k or 5 months. It's not b/c I want to save money but I think the less they touch my car, there's less chance that they will mess up something.

That is not what my manual says. That is for Premium or Schedule 1 service. If you fall under the parameters for Schedule 2, it is 7500 miles. Even that is too short in my opinion, but I will follow it until my warranty is up. With good filters and synthetic oil, you should be able to go at least twice that. My 335i goes about 12-15,000 and is much harder on the oil than the G37 engine.

wow, 12-15k miles .... and what does that oil smell like when it comes out? Changing at 3750 hurts nothing .... waiting until 12-15k is like playing with fire. Again, why spend big bucks on a car and then go cheap on oil, the most important thing .... oh well, to each his own.

If you get a UOA, you have absolutely nothing to worry about in the way of a dealership giving you any issue of non coverage for oil related warranty issues. I got one at 7500 miles on my oil and it was fantastic and I could have gone longer. The argument of paying a lot of money for more frequent oil changes because it's a more expensive car lets some owners sleep better at night. I spent $22.50 once to know what my oil is actually doing by laboratory analysis instead of conjecture and guesswork and I sleep just fine. I have a VQ Nissan engine with 212K and a KA with 272K that dont burn a drop and have never had a single issue.

The huge majority of us don't actually need 3750 mile oil changes but feel safer paying for them. Paying top dollar for a premium ester based synthetics and changing it often is a huge waste of money with no benefit to your engine. But it's your car and your money so change often if it makes you feel better. But you dont need it. UOA is the science that proves it.

Would it really matter where you get it done so long as you dictate what oil/filter you are putting into your car?
