Oil Filter Q: FOC vs. FOB

I went to the Nissan dealer the other day to get a filter for my '09 G37S Sedan. I had read on this forum that the 370Z uses the same filter. There are three Nissan dealers that are closer than the one Infiniti dealer in my area. One of them is less than 3 miles away so I want to get filters, oil (Ester) and other routine parts there.

I did my first oil change (1,300 miles) tonight and after I spun on the filter and put 5 quarts of Ester in I noticed that the filter that came off the car is a 15208-65FOB while the filter the Nissan dealer gave me is a 15208-65FOC.

I've searched these forums and have seen that some refer to the FOC as the correct filter while others refer to the FOB. I haven't seen a comparison of the two anywhere.

What is the difference between these two filters?

Can I use the FOC on my '09?

FWIW the car was delivered to the dealer in June. Also, dimensionally the two filters look identical.

I don't know the difference between the two (probably nothing), but if won't hurt anything at all to use it as long as the threads are the same. They are on almost all Nissan/Infiniti applications.

I've used filters for my '96 Maxima application on the G. They are slightly larger capacity but the same threads.

In case anyone is searching an answer to this in the future, I spoke to the Nissan dealer and the 15208-65FOA, 15208-65FOB, and 15208-65FOC are interchangeable. The "C" is the most current version. He also confirmed that it's the right oil filter for the 370Z and G37.

The other interesting thing is that printed on the "C" packaging are its applications and though there's a mix of Infiniti and Nissan models listed none of them are 3.7 liter cars.
