Words from infiniti about oil consumption
I called them and i said that on my first 6000 km (4000 miles around) , i used 1 liters ( 1/4 of Us Galons ) , is this normal ?
Answer :
We said that untill 1 liter per 1000 km ( 1/4 US galon per 625 miles ) is within the specs.
If one day i have a car that use so much oil , i would be very nervous about an engine failure soon.
What do you think ? Did you already have heard something like that.

1 quart/liter every 625 miles is within specsl!?!? So if you're using synthetic, it is "within specs" to add 10+ quarts over the span of 6-7000k miles???
From what I've read, spec would be more like <1qt every 3k miles.

Agree. It may use oil during the first few thousand miles and then stabilize and 1 liter/6000 km is not that bad so just watch it during the next oil change interval.

I have already 12000 km (7500 miles), yes i use less oil during the secund interval. 1/20 of galons or .2 litres is not so bad. What makes me laugh is th NORMAL specs of Infiniti

I suggest that you send a sample of your oil to Blackstone Labs for analysis and see what is going on.

You want to hear about burning oil?
First time poster – been lurking since February when I got my new Infiniti..
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
My 2009 G37S 6MT (red, baby!) is 8 months old with 9800 miles on it. It gave me the Check Engine/SLIP/VDC lights one morning as I left for work. I would lose engine power if I went above a certain speed. Above 20mph in first gear and above 30mph in 2nd gear, it was like someone cut the gas. I could do highway speeds, however.
<o></o>
I took it to my dealer immediately. The service manager came out and said they “found no oil on the dipstick”, which is why it was throwing those warning lights. He asked when I last changed the oil. I told him that I changed the oil myself back in May at 4,000 miles, using Mobil 1. I couldn’t get the original filter off, so I figured I’d have the dealer do the 2nd oil change with the 10,000 mile service. He asked if I had any “proof”. I was speechless. He said it didn't mean there wasn't any, but that it was very low.
<o></o>
He went back to have them do a regular oil change. Later that morning, he told me he needed to keep the car longer, and put me in a loaner. Three days later, he said that due to the “lack of oil” the timing got way out of whack and his mechanic was having to “pretty much take the whole thing apart and put it back together again”. WHAT?!?!?! He told me that Infiniti really recommends that you bring your car in for oil changes, and that if anything happens in the future without proof of an oil change, he won’t do the work under warranty. You mean I can void my warranty by changing my own oil and saving $70-some bucks (they charge $115 or more for a Mobil 1 change)?!?!?!
<o></o>
I have changed the oil in my cars for 20 years, including 10 years’ worth on my previous car, a G20t, with zero problems. I know how to change oil. I followed the service manual to ensure the quantity and procedure. There have never been any tell-tale signs of an oil leak or white smoke or anything. One thing I didn’t do was check the levels periodically since May. I never thought I would need to. I never had to before. Precision luxury cars do not burn multiple quarts of oil in five months and 5,000 miles.
<o></o>
I have to believe that any good mechanic knows you need to give a hot car a few minutes to let the oil get back down into the pan before testing the levels with the dipstick. I was thinking they didn’t, which would make it look like it was low.
<o></o>
Anyway, I go back to get it later this afternoon (I hope) and hear the rest of the story, but I think I already know what they’re going to say.
<o></o>
I’ve definitely gotten addicted to the Tech package, Nav, sport seat, and stickshift. The bone-stock loaner G37x has been nice in the rain this week, but…

Thanks for your help!

24K miles on my 08 coupe and have never added oil between 5K changes. My first oil change was at 1K, second at 3K, the rest have been at 5K. I used Mobil 1 until last oil change and I switched to Valvoline synthethic, never have I had to add oil. I guess I got a good one.

I watched my oil level closely. Dip stick was right on the top mark when I first got the car home. At 3,000 miles, it was down about 1/4 of one quart. I think I drive it "Normally" for a G.

I work at a Porsch/Audi/VW dealer ship and the new VW's and Audi 2.0T's are having the same oil consumption problem and VWoA is telling all the customers the same as Infiniti is telling everyone. There is a general break-in period for an engine. I didn't notice my oil in my G to be low before I got my first oil change and switched to Mobil1.
I have always known cars to be like the work days of the week. You never want a Monday car because all the plan employees partied all weekend and are recovering. You never want a Friday car becuase the plant employees are anticipating their weekend and are rushing to get the job done. The best is to get a Wednesday car. IMO

I don't know about now, but I know some car manufacturing plants have different shifts and practically run 24x7 production.
Is there a way to find out what day of the month your car was produced?

My G's consuming about 1 liter per 1000 miles.....from Day1...it's now 2 years and 16.5K miles. my motor oil is $15/liter double ester racing oil
The Dealer Service Advisor says that this is normal, and oil consumption problems have been fixed on the vq37. Not wanting to argue since I've been there last year already for an oil consumption test already...i insisted on getting one done again.
I drive between 3500 rpm and 5500rpm shifting gears and everything is stock on my car. How normal do you think this level of consumption is? I rev-match and engine-brake also if that matters
