I wish there were an update. I took mine in a few months ago and complained AGAIN about the frequent and annoying flaring. They said there were no error codes and still no updates. Nothing has changed- sometimes mine flares like crazy, other times, rarely at all. Seems to happen mostly if I drive somewhere, cut off the car, return to the car a little later to drive more. Also seems to happen more under light throttle.

I have been waiting "patiently" for something to happen. When I get closer to the warranty ending, I am going to get nasty with them and start writing to Infiniti corporate demanding they do something to address these issues. 2009 G37S Sedan RWD 7AT

This is exactly the same for me also; usually after a quick stop and ALWAYS under light acceleration. It normally only jumps 100-400 rpm but today it was jumping 1000 rpm which was very noticeable. I wish I had my video cam ready.

ive noticed the same thing. if you guys werent mentioning it i wouldn't think anything of it. i would like to have them correct this though and the video cam would be a great idea if you could catch it. It would be difficult to catch and you'd have to have that cam constantly rolling to pick it up. you would have a fact that the dealer could not shake then.

With 1,500 miles I've not noticed the flare...yet. I have noticed several times after coasting at 30 or 40 mph and then reapplying the accelerator it will not respond for a second or two. Does not happen frequently, but the transmission is seems confused for a moment. I have a feeling the software programming is less than perfect on these cars. If it does not get worse, I can live with an occassional glitch.

I have noticed that behavior in addition to the flaring (times when the transmission is "confused" and doesn't seem to want to cooperate). I actually find that part much less annoying and more rare than the flaring, though.

The last "fix"/update seemed more like they were trying to mask a physical problem with the transmissions through software tuning and it really doesn't work (I have NO proof of that, just pure speculation). I really wonder if it affects all the cars and only some people notice it or drive in a way to trigger it, or if it affects just some cars. Something we will never know.

I think what the transmission computer is doing at that time is making the gear change and not allowing the engine to send a bunch of power its way to protect the tranny. I myself would rather have it be a split second longer to downshift and my tranny last 150K miles than for the throttle to go WOT while it's trying to downshift and possibly ruin my tranny sooner.

The hestitation I am speaking about is extremely pronounced when it occassionally occurs...when the car has been coasting at 30 mph and then I want to resume normal moderate accelaration....almost like the motor has quit running for 2 seconds..which seems like an eternity. This is NOT an aggressive driving situation.

I noticed it for the first time today. My tach jumped up 500 to 1000 rpm without acceleration or downshifting. Funny feeling where the car was cruising and the tach goes up but the car was not accelerating at all.
This evening the tranny seemed confused. The tach jump up just before upshifting.

Sounds like you guys with 2010 models have a different issue than those of us with the 2009s had. The original issue discussed in this thread was/is very consistent. It happens when the engine is warm, you start the engine, the first time the car shifts from 4th to 5th the car has a small flare in RPMs, 500-1000. The car won't do it again until the car is turned off, started again and once again makes that shift.

Sorry, I have a 2009 and it is not at all limited to once per start. Mine will sometimes do it many times in a 15/20 minute trip, if the car had been used within a few hours prior. It is also not limited just to 4->5 shift (although with a 7 speed transmission, it is hard to tell which gears it is doing it in). Sometimes it will do it once. Sometimes it won't do it at all. Sometimes it is a small flare of just a few hundred RPM, other times it is several hundred RPM. It is consistently inconsistent.

I wonder if this "flare" we are seeing is the torque converter unlocking? Looks like our converter has two different lock-up modes. Lock-up and Slip Lock up. The increase in RPM could be due to the AT fully unlocking the converter and changing gear.

(FSM TM-117)
Lock-up released
• In the lock-up released state, the torque converter clutch control valve is set into the unlocked state by the
torque converter clutch solenoid and the lock-up apply pressure is drained.
in this way, the torque converter clutch piston is not coupled.
Lock-up Applied
• In the lock-up applied state, the torque converter clutch control valve is set into the locked state by the
torque converter clutch solenoid and lock-up apply pressure is generated

Bump

Well, it has been 8 months of fairly consistent flaring behavior mostly on second starts. I admit I have been lazy and have not made an issue of it with the dealer. Time is ticking for us 2009 owners (warranty) so I do have to stop procrastinating. Before I go back to the dealer, yet again, anyone else have any new information or developments about the 7AT flaring?

Have you asked the dealer to evaluate the car for TSB 10-075, which addresses the problem?

Having asked that, I'll also say that my 2011 purchased in Feb came with the updated software from that TSB, but I also notice the "flare", which seems more like a flutter to me. Very similar to my '08 Subaru Legacy GT, which had a TC lock-unlock-lock-unlock problem and was scheduled for a TC replacement under a Subie TSB when I traded it.

Interesting. I had not heard of that one yet:

"ITB 10-075 Transmission shift issues and/or a/t DTC stored. A slight vehicle vibration/shutter with light acceleration at low speeds; at times engine rpm goes up (about 200-250 rpm) during the 3rd>4th up shift, or the 4th>5th up shift; eng"

Doesn't sound like a perfect match, and certainly says nothing about it only happening after starting the car warm (and I never have vibration like they say), but it is worth researching. Thanks

Which makes me wonder if I've ever had the TSB applied...even though the dealership says I have.
