I get it. The odd thing is, it seems to only happen the first time through the gears any time I drive when the car is warm. When I accelerate normally, it happens when I am around 40-50 MPH. As stated by Mike, when it shifts up there is a second where the RPMs jump up 500-1000 then it shifts into gear and the RPMs drop.

That's about right... now go to your dealer and tell them about it.

I told them about it when I got the TSB for the downshifting.

I've noticed the "flare" issue around 40 mph. I took it in yesterday to Sewell Infiniti in Houston. They kept the car overnight and had a tech drive it home. Allegedly they couldn't duplicate the problem (along with some other things I took it in for). The tech said that this is the first he's heard of any issues regarding "flare".

I guess they don't realize that I'll just keep hounding them until it gets fixed. More fighters would be appreciated!!

there's a fix for this. just bring it in. both the 4th -3rd rough and flare are kind of covered in the same ITB. the car will drive a lot smoother after the reflash. just make sure they reset the ECU after they're done.

Flare is not covered in the TSB just the rough down shift.

At this point there is no fix for the flare. No one cares, not Infiniti and not us owners (I don't think anyone else aside from myself called Infiniti Consumer Affairs) soooo like everyone else here learn to live with it and hope it's not noticed when you trade it in in the future because I am sure it will make a difference in value....

Good luck, Have fun, Ba bye....

HoustonG37 I bought my car from Sewell in Houston as well. I took my car in to have the TSB for the downshift problem done and I they told me I only need my ECU updated. I too have noticed this "flare". Not very often though and until I read this post I never took much thought into it. I will call them and see if they have anything to say. Who did you deal with thier?

The flare happens so infrequently that it's not an issue for me either. I really don't think about it until I get on this forum.

My car is at 7200 miles and I recently started noticing the flare. I had the harsh 4-3 downshift ITB performed at 3200 miles. I'll ask the dealer about it at my next oil change.

before I bought my sedan i drove the 370z 7 speed and i don't remember the unlocking, locking thing that this car has ,but the shifting was more aggressive.Maybe for this car been a luxury car Nissan decide to make it a little less aggressive more smooth on the shifting. Just my thoughts,so if i am right maybe is a way to make the tranny not to unlock when shifting . Hard ,but not impossible.

Oh for goodness sake - I have noticed this as well, but it is very infrequent, and it's so not a real problem to me. Maybe yours is much worse? Try driving some cars with real transmission issues, like my old G8 - talk about flare - it seemed to forget there was actually another gear to go to sometimes and would almost redline it in neutral before shifting to 3rd.

Personally I think the 7at is a great transmission, I just wish it shifted faster in sport instead turning into a twisty road/track tune. I would like my tranny to slam those gears like a shift kit from days of yore when I put it in sport. That's my only transmission issue with this car. I think perception, and point of view play a big role with this issue...

I have this same flare. I've started noticing it more and more. I find it extremely annoying. I'll bring it up when I take my car in, but I use Houston Sewell as well, so I don't know if I'll have any luck getting it fixed.
