Mine was built 11/08. While I did not have the hard downshift, it was not as bad as some have said theirs is. My wife noticed it much more than I ever did. In fact she is the reason I got the update. I got tired of her asking if I was trying to make her sick when I came to a stop sign.

Having said that, after the update I do notice it not happening now. It downshifts much more like any other AT now. I imagine that can definitely help your gas mileage, especially during city driving.

Mine was built in 11/08.
As for the 2008 G35 with the 5 speed automatic. I have felt the same symptom around 20-25 mph in the loaner car the dealer gave me one time. It was not as harsh as mine was, but it was there. I have noticed my gas mileage has gone up slightly since having the reprogram done.

What did it do to the throttle tip-in? Any more responsive?

I am taking my sedan and my coupe in next week to get this done. I have less of this issue since I use the paddles a lot with the sedan. In the coupe I notice it more since it does not have the paddles. Thanks for the info.

I sometimes have a grind when downshifting from 4th to 3rd...mine is an 08 coupe though.

Bring on the faster throttle tip in though!!! I will do the computer reprogramming for that alone, I love the '08 model's instantenous throttle response!
i'm right there with Alex - +1 to all his comments.

Oh boy, I will have to deal with Cerritos Infiniti since I got my car there.

Someone mentioned that they will stick with Mission Viejo Infiniti, is their service any good?

Or does anyone else have a dealership in So Cal to recommend?

We bought our G at Tustin, and found them to be quite cool. Haven't been in for service, yet, however.

We live very close to Cerritos, but they blew an easy chance to sell us a car, so I'm not sure whether I'll ever take the car to them for any service, at all.

Im the one with the bad experience at Cerritos. I haven't tried Mission Viejo, I just know I will never return to Cerritos. I didn't know there was a dealership in Tustin. It's closer to Cerritos than Mission Viejo, might be worth a shot. Good Luck

New member here...I just had this update done at Ray Catena in NJ. Noticeable improvement, much smoother at the ~20 mph downshift.

As per the 4th -> 3rd downshift thread, I had my transmission reprogrammed today at Austin Infiniti. The tech seemed really knowledgeable. Told me the first year the A5 tranny came out, they had something like 5 program updates. He's confident there will be more updates.

I drove him around on the highway and showed him the downshift/acceleration lag as well as gear sticking in a lower gear for a couple of seconds (after letting up on the gas pedal) before dropping down into 7th gear. He agreed it wasn't optimal and that hopefully they would come out with a fix.

Today's fix did not address the above issues, unfortunately. Except for perhaps some slight improvement on downshifting/engine braking while slowing down, I haven't really noticed much difference at all.

Thanks for that update! I really hope he's right about more updates coming out. This transmission is not 100% fixed yet.

Thanks, texashoser. Were you experiencing the lag BEFORE the update? I seem to notice it since the update. Again, I hope they come out with another fix
