Same here. No update = no problems.

That's how Manual mode is. Drive around in D.

I think I'm experiencing something similar with my 2010. The 4-3-2-1 downshifts when braking is not smooth at all. The RPMs blip when it changes to these lower gears. I had the dealer take a look and the mechanic did notice it and said the 09s had a similar issue but there's no TSB for the 2010. It's not a harsh downshift but in stop and go traffic it becomes very annoying. I have a thread over at this site.

I have been following this thread off and on for a while, and something I carefully considered before moving forward with my 2010 G37xS lease. For anyone else following this and especially for those considering a G ... the 7AT seems fine now. I had a 2009 G 7AT loaner which I thought was horrible. My 2010 7AT is nothing like that and seems vastly improved. Smooth quick shifts. Minimal (yet enjoyable) downshifting while braking in D. There is no hard 4-3 downshift on braking (my previous 2006 Accord EX V6 sedan had more abrupt downshifting while braking). No flaring (I particularly remember this with a 2009 loaner I drove - it was bizarre). It is a little odd coming off the line with light throttle. Coming out of a 2008 G35xS 5AT sedan whose transmission I thought was the best in the world ... I am definitely content with the 7AT ... it's actually amazing. I know this is not helpful for folks trying to get their 7AT to function properly ... but for someone who has been following and considering pulling the trigger ... it seems fixed!

Well, here is an update from me:

I acquired my 2009 G37X AWD Journey in July 2009, and from the tag on the door, it seems to have been built 09/08. Very soon I noticed the jerky downshift and when I Googled the problem, I found this board and thread.

I had the update installed at roughly 1200 miles, and today I have 8100 on the car and really, there is no appreciable change or improvement. Clearly, I am broken in, and I find the wide variety of reported successes and failures of this "fix" to perform the desired magic to be unfortunate. Clearly, Infiniti does not have their hands around this. I might go drive a 2010 or 2011 just to compare.

But, when it's all said and done, it's a somewhat minor annoyance to me. My last ride was a cadillac DTS, and when you took your foot off the gas, it seemed to roll for a mile with no activity from the transmission, so I will likely never get used to feeling the engine grab ahold like the G37x does. It's never felt unsafe to me, and it's most noticeable with your foot off the gas and brake coasting to a stop, and the jerkiness occurs between 23-28 MPH.

Due to my lifestyle which is low annual miles, and the fact that I really don't want to "own" a car, I have been leasing for 10 years. That said, I am somewhat liberated from the emotions that I know would be stronger if I owned the G37x and I was intent on getting the ride 100% to where I liked it. On balance, the G37 is such a fun car to drive, that I can overlook this issue, but I wanted to at least report that I got the fix and there was little, if any, improvement.

Good luck, all.

Quick question. Are you experiencing the rough downshift in D or DS? There was no change in rough downshifting after my reflash in DS. A considerable change in D.

My 2010 exhibits the same problem as the 09s. Sometimes excessive engine braking when below 40mph and the 2-1 downshift sometimes bumps. Trying to slow down smoothly or coast in stop and go traffic is a chore. I test drove another 2010 on the lot after purchasing mine and it was not as excessive as mine. Dealer can do nothing unless TSB issue.
