New G37 Owner - When to do first oil change?
Hello all. Picked up a beautiful blue slate G37S a few months back, and I absolutely love this car! It was a big step up from the '04 TL it replaced. I've been spending quite a bit of time around this forum learning about the car, and this has been a great resource. BUT, I could not find any info on when people have done their first oil change. Some people like to change the oil around 1K miles or so, other just run to the normal service interval. What are those doing around here? I like to drive this car hard, so she needs to be well taken care of.
I will be trying PP, which is what my TL used with no issues. But, my car does have some of that valve lift noise at startup, so maybe the ester oil is the way to go. But the dealers around south florida are asking $20/qtr! That is crazy...
Has anybody put a short ram air intake on this car yet? I assume anything that fits a G37 coupe would work for the sedan.
thanks!

Infiniti also has an explicit statement on this in the owner's manual (section 9):
Your engine was filled with a high quality engine oil when it was built. You do not have to
change the oil before the first recommended change interval.
Granted many people do an early change for peace of mind but it's not required.

Seems like it goes either way... i'm just about at 1400 miles and I'm driving up to Orlando Thursday AM, so I might as well do it now. I will sleep better

I did what the manual says. Besides, I had a free oil change coupon from the dealer that was going to expire at about 4,000 miles anyway. I did change the oil filter at about 1,300 miles though. That was to remove the filter with any possible "shavings" and install a new one.
For those of you who do your own oil changes, pour your oil out into your recycle jugs and leave a little in the pan. Now tilt the pan left and right in the sun or a bright light and you can see the shimmering of all the small shavings in the oil. This is pretty much standard with any new engine I've changed the oil in regardless of who manufactured it! - Honda, Toyota, Ford, GM, Yamaha (yes, two motorcycles both had it)...they all have it. It decreases with oil changes until it's really not noticeable.

agreed - metal shavings in todays engines is FALSE. i did an oil analysis on my first 2 changeouts with no negative effects.
just stick to the 3750 change interval that infiniti recommends if you use their oil. since you have the knock, you might want to stick with it.
personally i run motul 300v with 5000 mile intervals with no issues.

So I changed the oil, put PP in, and the car runs great! Drove from Miami to Tampa today and had some fun. Seems to run nice and quiet, so I will stick with PP for a while.

I think I'll just stick with the service manual. I'm in an opinion too that more than usual frequent oil changes (vs. regular appropriate service interval) will just add cost & remains unclear if such would significantly change performance or add significant lifespan to the engine.

I went to the dealer for an oil change at about 2200 miles. They wouldn't do the oil change because it was too early. I figured they'd just change the oil since I was there. The service manager said they do some kind of oil analysis at 3750 to make sure the engine is breaking in properly and that an early oil change wasn't necessary.
