QX56/Titan 5.6L V8 Engine swap Q's

Have the ability to pretty much get whatever part I need, from a banged up Titan that took some major rear end damage.

I did some external measuring, and it seems the 5.6L V8 will in fact fit.

Why am I contemplating this? TORQUE!!!, and wanting to keep it in the family instead of going to passe and just dropping in an LSX GM motor.

My question is, has this been done, is there a "swap kit" already made? So I do not need to be reinventing the wheel with this, if no, no biggy, not the first time I've done this complicated of a swap before.

ECU, does anyone feel the stock G ECU will work and still power all of the LAN systems for the car, and control the 5.6L motor.

Discuss.

yes, but keep in mind, the g35 uses a different ecu, engine bay etc etc

How much heavier is that VK56DE engine than our VQ37s do you have a clue?

I am no pro with engine swaps but I've witnessed some stand-alone programming. All I can say is, Eight cylinders = 8 spark plugs. Not sure if our ECU's have enough output ports to control all 8. Seems like it would work fine otherwise (I think).

The VK56DE generates 317bhp and a nice 385lbft!! I'd consider supercharging that engine too if I were you. Since it's out anyways might as well get it built

Subscribing for updates and best of luck

ECU will have to be custom mapped regardless. G37 engine bay is larger than a G35.

JWT makes nice cams for those engines and uprev has their reflash so you can get a few extra ponies out of it. It's going to be an expensive swap to say the least. They're probably going to need to knock the firewall back a little bit too for the engine to actually fit properly in the bay.

Well, I'm currently researching how strong it's shortblock is (crank, pistons, rods).

But I'm good friends with a custom cam grinder (uses comp cam blanks), so we would go with a supercharger build) Low intake, high exhaust duration, with a medium LSA.

Custom mapping would have to happen, which is why I'm hoping Cobb has something available soon for histogram tuning for map comparison etc etc. I'm very good with EFI Live, HP Tuners, and SCT, so if they have anything similar to that, it would be a breeze.

As far as the blower goes.. just use a Vortech compressor, and hopefully the Titan brackets would still be usable, if not can always machine new ones.

I'm hoping any type of chassis and firewall modification is not the case, as it didnt seem to be needed with the G35 swaps.

We did a supercharged Ford V10 swap into a 1998 Mustang years back, we thought the same thing, with the additional 2 cylinders would require movement of the firewall... we were in luck, and still able to keep the rad and ac in the same spot... different animals i know.

Yep, I'm just wondering if the Titan's ECU can plug into the G37's LAN, and still be able to communicate and control the other features. Or if the harness can be adapted/spliced into.

Well that's good news, I was going by the LS1 swap 240sx since they did require firewall adjustments. I just assumed the G's would require the same fabrications. The more of a direct bolt-in, the less of a headache, the better!

I hope you will be doing some type of forced induction since the swap is going to be worthless otherwise. You'll be giving up horsepower for torque.

it would be supercharged, but remember... Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races

TT it, not supercharge! Imagine the HP you could get boosting and extra 1.9L!

Just to update you as I've been reading through that thread.. They seemed to have some "secret" and "minor" issues which I believe had to do with the ECU wiring. So check out what they did in post 296 lol They ordered a Haltech Stand Alone!

Hmmm..
