what kind of fuel do you use?

so i noticed that inside the gas cap it says premium unleaded only. i have no problem with this, for now, but is it really neccesary? the difference is about $300-$400 a year for premium. of course i am now only going to fel comfortable using premium since i like to baby my cars

It's necessary if you want to get optimum performance from the engine.

It'll be safe running at lower octane due to the ability of the engine to self adjust spark timing along with a knock sensor.

300-400 a year? How much driving do you do? Other calculations i've heard were like 100 or less. Anyways i'd stick with premi to be safe. Plus you dont want to give the dealers any more excuse than they can to try and void the warranty if you ever have a problem.

93 ALL the time. its not worth it to skimp on things like fuel or oil. if you cant afford it, get a cheaper car.

But if its a lease why would it matter. Does it effect performance that greatly, like does it create lag or anything like that?

For my G35, I had it leased for 2 years and was filling up with premium until I realized that Im wasting my money because I'm not going to have this engine for ever so it wouldn't matter. BUT... i noticed for the last few months it started running like ****, after 2 years you can notice a lack in performance and such, but I'm wondering if its due to me using 87 gas or whatever the lowest is. I just got a G37 and will be filling it up with 89 or premium, because its a 3 year lease, but if it doesn't make a difference then I'm going to stop wasting my money.

VQ35HR is 91 recommended

VQ37VHR is 91 required.

Now that being said, there is no short term damage to the engine on 87, but I hope you're not flooring it, as you'll see some significant power losses.

+1...I use 93 all the time as well, and my G37's a lease. I'm paying for performance, I'm going to get performance--what's the point of buying or leasing a G otherwise?

If I'd been worried about paying $0.20 more a gallon, I'd have bought another Elantra.

^^^ +1. It might be all marketing hype, but I trust the fuel additive packages in Shell gas as opposed to Jim Bob's no-name Fuel Station in the country (not an actual place.....I might live in TN, but it's not THAT country where I'm living). LOL

AMEN! LOL. I had to drive a P-O-S Hyundai a few days ago while I had a paint chip repaired on my G (if you're in the Knoxville, TN area, check out TN Collision Repair in Alcoa, TN.....outstanding work). I was in G37 withdrawal for 3 days.....it sucked.

Go for premium gas like the manufacturer recommends for ultimate power performance. I'm lucky enough that premium here is 93 octane.

93 octane burns cleaner and makes your engine run better. again, if you cant afford to pay the gas why did you lease a g??
