Test pipes are illegal in all 50 states for street use, as they help destroy the air we breathe. Why would you consider such a thing?

going faster, smelling bad, and really loud, leaving a big carbon footprint is your positives

they have illegal smog checks for like $150 bucks, no biggie.

I had test pipes on my Z and never had a problem with them except blowing black smoke outta my tailpipes at WOT :P

So the rest of us who live in the same environment, who must breath the same air, and who die every day from respiratory illnesses, and have to pay up-front in a never-ending effort to curtail smog all be damned?

I'm not sure if you are looking into strictly test pipes or if you are also considering HFCs. With test pipes, you have have a little bit more power over HFCs, not much they are almost the same in numbers. Test pipes will have more rasp, a stronger gas smell, and if you go with an aftermarket exhaust will be really loud. In this case, HFCs are the better way to go. However, HFCs do cost more than test pipes, and in California are harder to buy than test pipes.

It’s really difficult for me to answer a post like yours without getting personal, so I will only say that it scares me that your attitude may be shared by others. To disregard the public welfare solely to allow your car, already a top performer, to illegally go even faster is a chilling and egocentric mindset that I will never understand.

hi chekov

get hfc's and not test pipes.... test pipes will rasp your exhaust and the gas smell will be horrendous...

or you can be Mr. Green and not get either.

Well if you go with TP's 1. you'll have to purchase them out of state because of the new laws. 2. Finding a shop to install them will definitely be hard. 3. As for cops, they will definitely be able to smell a difference if your ever pulled over.

Are you kidding me LOL any shop in L.A. that takes "cash only" will do the job. I know 3-5 shops just in the SFV that will install HFC's, and their a cash only business.

Not hard to find a shop to install, but HFCs are better than test pipes. Don't forget the CEL light. you have a better chance of not getting one with HFCs.

Yeah, ok....obviously those type of places will, and they'll probably break your O2 sensor too.

But ok you can cross my #2 off the list then, installation facility won't be an issue.
