Should I get an Oil Change?

Ok. I had the G since August, got an oil change in November at about 4k miles... The G was garaged all winter (went for a drive some days) starting from late December... and now has about 5,500 miles.. The reminder pop up keeps coming on everytime I start the car... Should I get an oil change? Also what's the best oil I should get... I do long driving back and forth from NYC.

Thanks inadvance.

we have an oil change reminder light? lol ive never seen it, on 4500miles since my last oil change, which i did myself.

If you want you can change it, the oil isnt really used yet, so you can wait if you wanted to.

Put full synthetic and just change it once a year, and filter twice a year.

I thought oil change period was measured in distance not in time period.. Ive had three oil changes in 9 months now.. 36000 kms now

Not necessarily, its typically both, 3months/3000 miles for reg oil.

Thats just a standard guide for most cars.

It's not a light... it's a reminder pop up that comes up on the screen that says Maintenance Reminder 1.. Maintenance Reminder 2... etc.. 3 pop ups everytime I start the car.

Also I'm getting the oil change done at the stealership most likely.. what oil do I tell them to use? just full synthetic? or is there a special kind like the royal purple?

I also just started getting the oil screen when I start the car but it doesn't say maintenance reminder....something like oil (something), I can't remember I have to check. I'm at about 3100 miles, but trying to hold off until I get my springs so I can do it all at once at the dealership

Read your manual - you can change this yourselves. The dealership shoud reset every time they change the oil but never do.

It is not a sensor based warning - rather a user set alarm. You have 2 or 3 presets - you can set them for 5k, 10k, 15k. Then reset them once you have used these to 20k, 25k, 30k and so on.

Oh, and OP, change your oil - mineral oils break down even sitting in your car. In fact, after 4 months it turns toxic and can break down faster. My first drive of the Spring is straight to the dealership for an oil change.

Changing the oil is not a mileage thing only - hence the "Time" reference in the oil change intervals - 3mo/3500miles, etc.

Yea, I read about the time lapse of oil sitting in an engine over time and it can cause sludge all that stuff........ I'm gonna make an appointment to get an oil change in a couple of days. Btw... anyone know how much the Royal Purple oil change should cost?
