6MT question. Please help :-)

Guys, I used to push the clutch in to pop it out of 6th and back into N when slowing down to stop but recently I've been just popping it out of 6th (or any gear for that matter) without pushing in the clutch since it seems to let you do so smoothly. No gear grind. Is this OK for the car? Or should you push the clutch in even when popping it out of gear and back into Neutral??

Another variation scenario of the same question:
Even when shifting (whether up or down) I seem to get some smooth/quicker shifts when I pop it out of gear without the clutch, and then just push the clutch in just as the gear is waiting at the gate of the target gear. No gear grind.

Is this technique OK?

it's totally fine... when output and input shafts match perfectly you don't need the clutch to even go in gear... you can try this it won't grind your gear...

rev up first gear to about 30 mph and put a slight pressure from pulling it out, at a certain mph it will come out without clutching in, and it will go into 2nd without clutching in either

Interesting thanks for the information. Some of this stuff is still kind of new to me. Does anyone else want to chime in?

He pretty much summed it up. You dont need to use the clutch if you dont want to. When gear speed are synchronized, they'll mesh without using the clutch.

You won't have any issues as long as you don't grind and don't try to jerk out or slam it into gear. If you are being forceful with it, you could damage the synchro-mesh and then you'll have problems. When I'm cruising and have to stop at a light, stop sign, or anything I see in advance and know I'll come to a complete stop I'll let off the gas and at the same time pop it out of gear and coast to a stop. Been doing it since I started driving and have had no problems with any of the cars I've owned.
